Bio

I have 5 years of tutoring and teaching experience in English, Writing, Humanities, Science, and Math, as well as 3 years of experience as an executive function mentor.

I am well-versed in everything ADHD (executive dysfunction, emotion dysregulation, task initiation, etc.) because I currently am working as a mentor and caregiver at a specialty boarding school (grades 6-12) serving students with ADHD, ASD, and other LDs…not to mention I live with ADHD myself. I work with students...

I am well-versed in everything ADHD (executive dysfunction, emotion dysregulation, task initiation, etc.) because I currently am working as a mentor and caregiver at a specialty boarding school (grades 6-12) serving students with ADHD, ASD, and other LDs…not to mention I live with ADHD myself. I work with students holistically, strategizing with them to improve their day-to-day functioning, to and help them understand and stabilize their interpersonal relationships, and to maximize their academic success. It is at this program where I have worked as a middle school teacher for ELA, Humanities, Science, and Math in an experiential learning setting.

I have worked in this neurodivergent experiential learning program for 3 academic years and 3 summers. Prior to my experience with this population I worked as a writing tutor at my university’s writing center and as a virtual ESL tutor for native Korean speakers ages 10-adult.

I have a B.A. in psychology and 3 years of experience at a private boarding school that only accepts students diagnosed with ADHD into its program. At this program I have co-taught ELA, science, math, humanities, and SEL (social-emotional learning) to middle schoolers and high schoolers. I have even trained new staff in best practices for working with students who have ADHD. I know how to de-escalate students in overwhelm, dysregulation, and overstimulation, as well as how to redirect them to the task at hand…oftentimes without them even realizing that I’ve gotten them back on track.

When I was a student at The University of Texas at Austin I was a tutor for my peers at the University Writing Center. I collaborated, brainstormed, edited, re-organized, and helped refine academic writing ranging from English analysis essays to Engineering theses to graduate school admissions essays. I completed a multi-semester course before working where we learned techniques that allowed us to support our students while still ensuring that our students maintained complete ownership of their writing. I have also worked as an ESL tutor for 5 years, and in that time I have helped my students refine documents as small as emails to colleagues and as large-scale as peer reviewed academic journal articles.
