Bio

I am a professional educator with over 20 years of experience. My area of expertise is working with middle school students in the area of Social Studies and Humanities, however I have worked with students of all ages and grade levels. I have been tenured in two districts and licensed in three states (Ohio, North Carolina, and Texas). I am well versed in standardized testing and various curriculums. I have worked as an AVID teacher, and spent 7 years teaching in a a school with both the International Baccalaureate (IB) and A+ Creative Arts magnet programs. I love to see students succeed and gain confidence in their abilities. Their success is my success and I want to celebrate that with them.

I have taught middle and high school for 15 years, requiring public speaking. I have also been a workshop facilitator for 2+ years, employed as a contractor through the Department of Labor. In this position, I present a 3 day workshop to participants. While in high school, I participated in the Oratorical Interpretation category of Forensics, and later was a volunteer coach for Forensics, helping in categories such as Extemporaneous Speaking, Interpretation, Prose and Poetry, and Duet Acting.

While teaching in an International Baccalaureate magnet school, I taught many classes on Comparative Religion and World Religion. This included Buddhism, Hindu, Shinto, Judaism, Islam, Bahai, Christianity, Taoism, Jainism, and Sikhism as well as philosophies such as Confucianism. This was in addition to teaching Humanities classes that focused on History and Culture of Africa and Asia. While teaching in a Catholic School I taught Religion to 8th grade students.

I taught Humanities in an International Baccalaureate magnet school for seven years. I held a comprehensive Social Studies certification to teach grades 7-12 Social Studies in the state of North Carolina. This includes all areas of History, Political Science, Economics, Geography, Sociology, Psychology, and Government.

I have been a teacher for 15 years. Teaching a student HOW to study is as important as what to study. As an AVID teacher, we taught how to chunk information for review and preparation for testing. I taught in a state that adopted the Common Core and students were tested in multiple areas each year. We all had plenty of practice.

I have coached all areas of Track and Field for 12 years. I have coached both mens' and women's teams. I was a runner and thrower while in school, and have completed 2 full marathons and 3 half marathons.
