Hello, it is nice to see you here! My name is Everest, I tutor core subjects K-12, the arts, and humanities. I hold an Associate Degree in Art with a focus in English, and I am attending Western Carolina University for my Flute Performance and Biology Bachelor's degrees.

I have tutored in 1:1 settings since I was 14. I find it an invigorating challenge to help frame a topic in a way that someone else can fully understand. I have tutored students as young as six in all core subjects, including high school students in AP classes. I have tutored students as young as eight years old on piano, flute, oboe, clarinet, and alto saxophone. I also have volunteer experience tutoring English as a second language to students at B2 fluency or higher.

I have completed extensive coursework focusing on English and I am fully prepared to teach you or your child how to write excellent essays. I can also help you or your student brush up on your advanced English, if you are a non-native speaker. I have been tutoring math longer than anything else and I can help you grasp the concepts that somehow never seem to stick. I have tutored biology, including group studies, at an AP level and I am prepared to help you improve your performance in the sciences. I also have tutored American and World history at an AP level and am prepared to help you get a 5 on your next exam!

I like tutoring those who feel they learn differently from their peers. I believe that learning is a process that should be led by the needs of the student(s) and adapted by the tutor. I often prepare unique exercises tailored to my students' needs. Reach out to me to schedule a lesson, and we will achieve your learning goals together!

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

I have a great deal of experience tutoring children and teenagers with ASD, along with comorbidities including dyscalculia, dyslexia, ADD, ADHD, and Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. I am neurodivergent myself, and I found throughout my life that being informed about the neurodivergent community has helped me to succeed not only in my own academic pursuits, but in helping others. I enjoy working with students who see the world differently and who may need extra help understanding certain topics.
Biology

Biology

I am currently completing my Bachelor's in Biology at Western Carolina University. I took AP Biology in high school, often tutoring my peers. I genuinely enjoy talking about biology and helping people understand more about the natural world. If you need help with biology, I'm here to offer it!
Clarinet

Clarinet

I have played clarinet for six years, and have previously qualified for a chair in a competitive all-district band. Most recently, I played clarinet in the pit band for a production of "Legally Blonde." I have tutored clarinet for 3 years; I am capable of helping you get started on clarinet or helping you refine what you have already developed. If you are looking to improve your clarinet-playing skills, I am here to help!
Common Core

Common Core

Common Core can be a rigid and unforgiving method of learning for some students; it does not offer a wide range of ways to reframe ideas, and the focus can sometimes feel more about getting the correct answer than understanding the process behind obtaining it. I have led study groups since elementary school helping those who struggle to understand Common Core materials, and I help prepare my students for the rigorous testing that Common Core so often demands.
Ear Training

Ear Training

I have completed undergraduate level aural skills/ear training at the top of the class. Ear training is a skill that requires patience and familiarity with musical form and structure, and is required of all music majors. However, coming hand-in-hand with composition and music theory, ear training is a useful skill for every musician, and one I am ready to help students develop. I am currently in touch with aural diversity researchers in New Zealand and the UK, and I implement state-of-the-art techniques in my sessions to help students across the auditory spectrum excel in their aural skills training.
Flute

Flute

I am currently completing my Bachelor's Degree in Performing Arts with a focus on Flute Performance. I have played solo repertoire, with bands and orchestras, with piano accompanists, and with small chamber ensembles. I also have a great deal of experience auditioning for various ensembles and playing in performance competitions. I have tutored other people on flute, from beginners to advanced high school players, for about four years. Many of my students went on to compete as well.
General Music

General Music

I am here to help you learn what you want to know about music. I have taken many music appreciation classes, studied many kinds of music, and performed in countless different ensembles. Whether you are looking to learn about the history and development of music, you wish to learn to read sheet music, or you would like to find an instrument and/or musical style that fits you best, I can help!
Homeschool

Homeschool

Whether you are looking for someone to help structure your homeschooling schedule or for assistance across various subjects, I can help! I completed my Associate Degree and almost three years of high school through mostly asynchronous online learning. I understand how difficult it can be to structure your schedule and find resources, but I am here to help!
Oboe

Oboe

I have played oboe for four years, performing a wide array of solo and ensemble repertoire. I will help you build important fundamental skills on oboe if you are a beginner, or I can help you touch up your technique on more advanced works. I can also help you develop other important musicianship skills, such as auditioning and performing skills.
Piano

Piano

I have studied piano since I was 10 and have studied at the university level. I have taught students as young as 8 and have seen great success with all my students, including those with learning disabilities causing difficulties with reading sheet music. I am prepared to deliver content in the way most befitting your learning style and needs.
Saxophone

Saxophone

I am a "concert doubler", so I have experience playing many different woodwinds. I have played saxophone for three years. Most recently, I doubled in the pit band for a production of "Legally Blonde", which included playing flute, oboe, clarinet, and saxophone. I can help you get started on saxophone, learn more advanced repertoire, and even learn the fundamentals of jazz improvisation. I can also help you develop auditioning, competing, and performing skills, all of which are useful to the avid saxophonist.
Sight Singing

Sight Singing

I am taking music theory and aural skills as a music major, and I have found sight-singing challenges many of my classmates. I received personal training on this topic and can help you improve your ability to match what you see with what you hear, and what you think with what you sing. I am currently in touch with aural diversity researchers in New Zealand and the UK, and I implement state-of-the-art techniques in my sessions to help students across the auditory and neurodivergency spectrums learn to sightsing!
Swimming

Swimming

I am trained in swim safety as well as the four basic swim strokes and elementary diving techniques. I have tutored lap swim technique for three months and my student feels that they have seen a great improvement in their performance. I hope to help you improve your swimming skills!
Writing

Writing

I am trained in academic and creative writing techniques, and I have been engaged in creative writing throughout my life. I enjoy writing short stories and plays as well as novels and poetry. I have won prizes in poetry and screenplay writing, and enjoy the process that makes my writing meet the goals required of it. I also enjoy teaching others how to develop their own process of refining their writing over time.

Thoughtful and patient tutor

Everest helped me best by trying to work around my struggles to identify the problem. It opened up a new learning experience for me where I felt understood and wasn’t judged for being slow with some questions.

Patient and gentle

We have had 2 lessons with Everest so far, and she is definitely helping her build confidence as a brand-new oboe player! My daughter is motivated to practice in between lessons because of Everest's patient and gentle approach. We will definitely be booking more lessons with her throughout the summer and school year! Thank you, Everest!!

Knowledgeable and Patient Tutor

My son is extremely shy but Everest made him feel comfortable enough to discuss what he was having difficulties with. She was really patient with him and helped him really get an understanding of his instrument (Clarinet) and the fundamentals of playing. In just one session we already started to see improvements and he is absolutely looking forward to continuing with her. Would recommend her to anybody who needs help. You will not regret it.

Very helpful and patient tutor

Everest has done well with patiently teaching me how to play the flute, even with my own personal challenges. Everest is very relatable and understanding, giving me tips on what has helped her while learning flute, and strives for me to continue learning my instrument. She is also very knowledgeable about the anatomy of the body and how the body works while playing the flute, so it helps me understand the flute at a deeper level. I’m so thankful that she is a great listener and encouraging, and I’m sure she would do well teaching music or other subjects to people of all ages and backgrounds.

Patient and Kind

Everest was patient and kind with my teen who needs a little extra time to process. She paced her needs well and Josie left the session feeling happy and accomplished.

Amazing multi-instrumentalist

I have been taking lessons on flute, clarinet, and Oboe from Everest, and she is outstanding. She provides information and materials for fundamental techniques for a beginner as well as music theory and other necessary information for intermediate-advanced students. I am a complete beginner for the oboe and intermediate player for flute and clarinet, and I get so much information and teaching for all instruments. She is methodical and logical in her teaching and very patient and understanding for a beginner. I highly recommend her for any students seeking to elevate their musical journey to a higher level.
