Hello, I'm Jack. I excel at making complex ideas easy to understand through an attention to the finer details and the ability to recognize and understand others' train of thought. Friends and family often appreciate my knack for simplifying things and spotting subtleties.

I started my journey in chess at the age of 30. Despite my late start and no over-the-board experience, I've achieved a notable Puzzle rating of 3025 on Chess.com (99.8th percentile or top 0.2%) and a Bullet rating of 2081 on Lichess.org.

As a mentor, I've nurtured chess enthusiasts from within my 750 member Discord server in group settings and one-on-one. The primary age of these students was 13-17, but I've also taught people my age and older. It's been 1,724 days since my journey began, and I look forward to the step in that journey that sees me sharing my passion and knowledge for the game with you!

My approach to teaching is rooted in adapting a style tailored to you as an individual. Thank you for reading a little about me, I hope you feel like you got to know me, and I can't wait to hear from you.

Chess

I have been playing and studying chess for just over 5 years now and I hold a Chess.com Puzzle Rating of 2902 and a Lichess.org Bullet Rating of 2043. My highest rated former student had never played chess before I began introducing him to the game. After about a month of teaching him the basics and giving him resources to study in his own time (articles, videos, teaching him how a chess engine works), I had him begin playing Rated Rapid games on Lichess.org. He never went below a rating of 1000, showing he was definitely paying attention and working hard. He went from his lowest rating of 1030 to a new peak of 1202 in just over 1 month. Exactly one year later he was at 1525. This was extremely rewarding for myself to be a part of as the foundation I helped set allowed for this growth and I'm immensely proud of my former student's accomplishments in his chess journey.

2nd Lesson

I’ve had 2 lessons with Jack and have learned a lot already. I really like how he has a prepared lesson plan each week and goes over what was discussed the previous week. I’m really excited to keep working with him.
