"Really Good Tutor"

- Andrew, High Point, NC on 11/13/13
Amy replied on 11/30/2013

It was an extreme pleasure! Your son was very responsive, cooperative, and picked up on my teaching methods very well. He loved all of the strategies and tricks I shared with him and was excited to be learning math for the first time in a while. He had become quite frustrated in class, so my goal during each session was to make sure he had notes for the topics they were learning in class and to make sure I taught it to him in the way that "was best for him"! I feel all of these factors contributed to his success!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Math

I have had over 8 years experience teaching all levels of math from Algebra through Trigonometry. I also have experience teaching a class of those students who struggled with passing their 8th grade Math EOG test, where I teach them test taking strategies as well as help them grasp the math concepts. I have also tutored for over 20 years with much success. I utilize many diverse learning strategies to help students grasp the material. I work very hard to help my students!

ADD/ADHD

I have taught remedial Algebra I and remedial Algebra II for the past 8 years. Many of the students in these classes have ADD/ADHD. I have co-taught w/ an EC teacher in these classes so that we can team up, help each other and better meet the needs of these students. While doing this, I have learned many helpful strategies to help these students. A big change was to teach them small amounts of information at a time, letting them practice that and continually spiraling that back in as they learn new concepts.

Algebra 1

I love teaching Algebra 1 (Math I)! I have taught all levels of Algebra I, including: remedial Algebra I (year long) and Standard Algebra I over the last 8 years. I have also tutored for over 20 years with much success. When teaching/tutoring, I use many different methods to help students to be successful. I work very hard to help my students gain the understanding they need to work independently and succeed!

I work very hard to help my students gain the understanding they need to work independently and succeed!

ASVAB

I also have experience teaching a class of those students who struggled with passing their 8th grade Math EOG test, where I teach them test taking strategies as well as help them grasp the math concepts. I have also tutored for over 20 years with much success. I utilize many diverse learning strategies to help students grasp the material. I work very hard to help my students!

Calculus

I am a licensed/certified teacher. I was a Summa Cum Laude graduate of High Point University with a 4.0 GPA. I majored in mathematics for secondary education and minored in Computer Science. I took 2 levels of Calculus in college, scoring a 4.0, and was given the "Outstanding Senior Mathematics" Award due to my Calculus achievements as well as my overall love of math. I also did my Senior Seminar on "Calculus 3", which involved me teaching myself the subject, writing the Thesis Paper, and presenting it to the committee.

Differential Equations

I've taught differential equations for the past 3 years to many different high school students, as well as, college students. Also, I've tutored differential equations in calculus for past 3 years and many times over the past 20 years. I took Calculus AB in high school, made an A and scored high enough to receive hrs. of credit for Calculus my freshman year. My BS degree was obtained from "High Point University", where I also took 2 more levels of calculus. I used the ideas from Calculus III and developed my Senior Seminar from these ideas.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am a licensed/certified teacher. I was a Summa Cum Laude graduate of High Point University with a 4.0 GPA. I majored in mathematics for secondary education and minored in Computer Science. Many of the courses required as part of the education curriculum at HPU were both for Elementary education and Secondary, until I got to the point of specializing in the math itself. We were required to complete observation or intern hours in elementary, middle or high so that we would have a better understanding of the "whole picture". I also have tutored in all 3 age groups as well for over 20 years. It is also helpful that my children are both in elementary school as well and I am very active in their school and a major role in their education. I have one in 1st grade and one in 4th grade and being an educator I am aware of the concepts taught at each level and aware of the newest change to "common core". I have many hands on activities and access to games and websites as well that elementary students seem to enjoy.

GED

I have tutored a wide age range of people getting their GED. Some have been students who were unable to graduate from a traditional high school setting, to adults who have decided to get their GED later in life in order to pursue a college degree.

I am a highly qualified teacher, who has a BS in Mathematics; minor in Computer Science from High Point University (Summa Cum Laude).

I will analyze the student's strengths and weaknesses, so that our time working together will be focused and highly effective! I pay close attention to each student's individual learning styles and needs to be successful!

Geometry
