I earned degrees in education, biology, and sociology from Western Carolina University. During a decade my career in education I earned teaching licenses in 6-12 Science, 9-12 Social Studies, and K-12 ESL. I have extensive knowledge of both state mandated curriculums as well as various college preparation exams. My effectiveness as a teacher and tutor is further evidenced by having the highest growth index for the district on state EOC's for biology. Additionally, ESL students on my caseload grew by an average of 26% on their annual ACCESS testing.
I have 7 years of tutoring experience in both science and english for students in grades 6-12th grade.
I also have coached students through scholarship applications as well as ACT preparation.
During my time as a program director in educational nonprofits my expertise was amplified in ACT and college scholarship preparation. I also managed student caseloads for progress monitor as well as socio-emotional wellbeing.
During my time as a Title-I teacher coach, I developed training and restorative practices for teachers in state-tested science fields. I earned the Teacher Coaching role by having the highest growth index for biology students out of all 9 high schools in the school district. Whether I am training teachers, teaching students, or tutoring clients my approach is always centered on strong relationship building and goal progress monitoring.
As a tutor, whether online or in person, my approach is guided and to always help students reflect on what they accomplished by the end of the session so they can understand how growth feels.
