Math is My Best Friend! Can it be Yours, too?

Hello, my name is Bonnie C. and I have been tutoring/teaching for a long, long time. I have degrees in Therapeutic Recreation with a Minor in Vocational Rehabilitation and a degree in Elementary Education (K-6). I earned certifications in K-6, Middle School Math, and Special Education. I was a stay-at-home mom for my children's early years and was then asked to teach in the Adult Basic Education classes at Lenoir Community College in the Adult Basic Education program. I taught English Language Art Reading, English Language Arting Writing, Science. Social Studies, but mostly Math. I had found my calling!! I love teaching Math! I love seeing the light bulb come on when a student finally gets whatever concept we are working on. With my background in Rehabilitation, I often pull from those concepts to help a student learn differently. I find that many adults dropped out of school because of Math. I am able to help them regain their confidence and show them that they can do anything they put their mind to.

My middle name in teaching a concept, whether it is Math or Digital Literacy is PATIENCE. I can repeat the lesson or demonstration or whatever it takes as many times as needed to help a student grasp the concept and gain the confidence to continue. Math is My best friend, but it doesn't have to be yours. You just have to like it well enough to be an aquaintenance. You have to like it well enough to learn the concepts to pass the test and use it in everyday life in order to be successful.
