Bio

I have taught guitar, steel guitar, bass and for nearly 20 years. I taught as many as 20 students per week as individuals and even taught a class of up to 10 ukulele students. My students gave me high marks and I only stopped teaching when a new job made my schedule to unpredictable to maintain my lessons in a fashion that was fair to my students. Some of my students remained with me for over 5 years, and I even brought them occasionally, to my live gigs to let them sit in for a song they had learned for the experience.

The highlight of my teaching experience is seeing the excitement of a student when they suddenly "get it" and understand the instrument on which they are learning. It is a mystical moment and makes teaching totally worth it. I also love playing along with a student as they learn, giving them the experience of performing in a duo or group setting. In my decades of experience, playing along with someone is the best way to learn!

I am self-taught both in music theory and instrument performance.

55 plus years experience as a semi-professional musician and 10 plus years instructing. I've been playing guitar, bass and autoharp for 55 years, steel guitar for 46 years, ukulele for 20 years and I am personally teaching myself the harmonica although I have owned and played at least 1 since I was 15.

I have played rock, blues, country, jazz and folk music all my life, and I love to teach in any of those styles. I have played professionally in both solo and band capacities and have performed in front of as many as 7,000 and as few as one. In my opinion, the enjoyment of performing is the most important aspect of music. I presently play in a church environment, something I have been doing since I was in my teens when I joined a Catholic folk choir. I eventually moved on to direct several folk choirs and have served as a worship leader for nearly 20 years.

If you are interested in learning an instrument I teach, or even just want to see if you can learn to play just one song to see if playing
