I've spent my entire professional career working with teenaged students to help them understand and utilize the power of the written and spoken word. All I've ever wanted to do is teach and write. I received a Bachelor of Arts in English with a minor in creative writing from UNC Chapel Hill in 2005. I received my Master of Arts in Teaching with a concentration in secondary English education in 2007 from East Carolina University. I spent four years as a high school English teacher in the public school system of NC and another three years working with at-risk, adjudicated teenaged boys in a secure, youth development setting.
I know that I bring passion and a talent for using words to the table. I also bring experience and know-how as well, having taught in a formal setting. Most importantly, I bring a desire and ability to help students light up with the knowledge of how words not only express ideas, but they also give birth to them. It lights a fire in me to really grasp and experience this knowledge and I know it will light a fire in my students as well.
I went to college at UNC on a four year, "NC Teaching Fellows Scholarship." I loved preparing to become a teacher, I loved teaching in the traditional setting and I will love helping students in an online setting prepare for life by getting a grasp on and ideally, a love for language itself.
