Spending time in elementary ELA and Math classrooms provided a unique opportunity to support students with foundational enrichment opportunities to enhance learning and comprehension in complex concepts. I have worked with students in tutoring opportunities, small groups, and after-school programming and independent tutoring ranging from grades second through ninth. My background provides a skillset rich in data and technology, with a degree in Psychology and current graduate work in Middle Grades Math underway, allowing for a perspective providing a step into the classroom from an outside lens with heartfelt passion ready to empower and support growth for learners in their journey towards academic success by building self-efficacy.

Working with students of varying neurodivergent needs, students emerging as bilingual, and students with placement from the kindergarten to ninth-grade levels in math and reading, teaches us that the individual growth proficiencies are a partnership and require goal-setting, beginning with the student. Students have benefitted from enriched language and vocabulary support to further enhance comprehension in word problem complexities and higher order critical thinking problems that might involve multiple operations and applications to complete successfully. Through examining and supporting improved self-efficacy, celebrating student growth in a multitude of ways has been a rewarding experience.

In six years in the classroom, I worked with students in upper elementary and middle grades and can assist with understanding resources provided, reteaching concepts for homework support, and provide foundational support to close achievement gaps or extend learning opportunities for enrichment. Though I have worked with students ranging from ages 7-14 in Math and ages 7-10 in Reading, my preference is Middle Grades (6-9 grade) Mathematics. However, please reach out to see if we can partner together to support academic success for your scholar! Availability may vary - reach out to inquire.

Through tutoring opportunities, time working as a middle school math teacher, and as a graduate student focused on Middle School Mathematics for grades sixth through ninth, my experience has involved empowering students to build and understand study habits, evaluate and strengthen foundational fluency skills, and reteach lesson concepts to support homework completion and unit summative assessments and end-of-grade testing preparedness. Students have benefitted from enriched language and vocabulary support to further enhance mathematics comprehension in word problem complexities and higher order critical thinking problems that might involved multiple operations and applications to successfully complete. Through examining and supporting improved self-efficacy in the math classroom, in small group settings, and one-on-one, celebrating student growth in a multitude of ways has been a rewarding experience. What can we celebrate together in the coming year - improved note-taking skills, established study habits, successful implementation of new strategies?
Elementary (K-6th)

Elementary (K-6th)

In my first year of teaching, I entered the classroom halfway through the year, exceeded growth for my lower-level students, and was awarded the Beginning Teacher of the Year for the school and attendance area that I was serving. Throughout my four years in elementary education, I had the opportunity to work with students with neurodivergent abilities, students who spoke English as a second language, and students with placement from the kindergarten to seventh-grade levels in math and literacy. The secret to my success was that I passionately engaged students with their learning, identifying and meeting them where they were, but giving them access to see a destination that they belonged in. A sense of belonging and allowing young scholars the opportunity to connect with their learning is empowering and paves the way to a successful connection with learning.
Elementary Math

Elementary Math

Having worked with students in a fourth grade setting, I am passionate about connecting students below grade level and extend opportunities for students to reach challenges beyond their current grade level content. Elementary math is the foundation for building into a higher level math, so a solid knowledge and application of content bridges gaps and supports understanding. The connection is beautiful to watch unfold, as you can see number sense terminology and strategic approaches in use as students step through content.

Writing

Writing

I work best with struggling writers who have difficulty pulling structure and ideas out. For middle school students, writing support would consist of examining assignments, enriching writing through details from cited sources, and developing a higher level of detail and support when arguing and providing evidence.

Extremely knowledgeable an experienced teacher with her student

A first math lesson with my 13 year old granddaughter / ward Seanna. She said a great lesson and Math has never been Seanna's favorite subject. Ms. Grimm was able to have Seanna enjoy the lesson and have her looking forward to the next lesson.
