My tutoring approach centers on curiosity and critical analysis rather than rote memorization. I specialize in the humanities, social sciences, writing across disciplines, and test preparation for SAT and ACT. By using an inquiry-based method, I guide students to look beneath the surface of the material, helping them build both academic confidence and the intrinsic motivation to learn. Whether we are parsing a complex text, structuring an analytical essay, or breaking down exam logic, my goal is to make the process collaborative, active, and grounded in practical understanding.
This educational philosophy is shaped by my own non-traditional path. I began my undergraduate studies at Hendrix College in 2006, focusing on religious studies and international relations. I spent the next seventeen years in the restaurant industry, with a decade dedicated specifically to operations, training, and personnel development. When I returned to academia at Madison Area Technical College to study psychology, I stepped into the college’s learning labs as a tutor, helping peers navigate math up to algebra and refine their writing across various academic subjects. Today, I am living in North Carolina, acting as a caregiver for a family member while completing my degree in psychology and social work.
Navigating higher education as a neurodivergent adult has given me a profound appreciation for the friction points in traditional learning. I understand firsthand how overwhelming standard classroom environments and rigid testing formats can be, especially when organizational skills do not match academic capability. Because of this, I build highly supportive, structured, and empathetic learning environments tailored to how an individual actually processes information.
