When I was ten years old, my favorite book was Homer's Odyssey.

The Odyssey was one of the first books I read that showed me the magic of storytelling. I fell in love with its tangibility within my imagination. I felt like I was there, trekking beside Odysseus as he struggled towards his goals.

When I was ten years old, my favorite book was Homer's Odyssey.

The Odyssey was one of the first books I read that showed me the magic of storytelling. I fell in love with its tangibility within my imagination. I felt like I was there, trekking beside Odysseus as he struggled towards his goals.

The Odyssey introduced me to my imagination, and I wanted to share that passion with others, so I became a teacher. First, I pursued a degree in literature. Upon graduation, I was awarded my college’s Literature Award for the top graduating literature student in the program.

For several years after graduating, I taught medieval literature, classical rhetoric, and speech and debate to high schoolers. Currently, I am working on my master’s degree at North Carolina State University, moving into my final year of the program with a 4.00 GPA. While at NCSU, I am teaching English 101 to college students within the First Year Writing Program.

Beyond the classes I have taught in literature, writing, and speech and debate, my tutoring background includes teaching essay writing, various homeschooling subjects, speech, debate, ACT/SAT prep, college application prep/review, piano, Biblical studies, and art.

Overall, I love providing feedback on student writing, doing my best to help students improve and grow.

Test prep is an area I also enjoy. From personal experience, I know how much studying and practicing can help for standardized tests; feedback-rich practice raised my scores to 36 ACT reading, 36 ACT English, and 800 SAT verbal. I would love to help you improve your scores too!

Are you a public speaker? I can help there too! I'm nationally-awarded in Lincoln Douglas Debate, Moot Court, and Parliamentary Debate and I’ve won multi-state awards in speech categories as well.

My students say that I'm fun and improve their love of learning; I hope to always make that true. Please contact me with any questions. I would love to work with you!

Bible Studies

Bible Studies

I have taught in Sunday School classes for seven years, both with helping kids stay engaged in the bible study, and in teaching lessons themselves. I love making the Bible engaging for kids, and helping them learn more about the world around them along the way!
Greek

Greek

I have studied Greek for 4 years: 2 before college and 2 more in college (2 semesters of college Biblical Greek and 2 semesters of college Attic/Classical Greek). My GPA in the subject is 3.92. I have translated books of the Bible and classical works including those by Xenophon, Thucydides, and more. I enjoy striving to make lessons fun and engaging and would love to work with your student! Curriculum-wise, I have used Christine Gatchell's Elementary Greek, Elizabeth Fox's Gateway to Greek, William Mounce's Basics of Biblical Greek, and Anne Groton's From Alpha to Omega. I'm comfortable working with whatever curriculum you are interested in using, however.
Homeschool

Homeschool

I was homeschooled from K-12 and wouldn't trade it for anything! I was taught in a combination classical/Charlotte Mason approach using IEW, Singapore and Jacobs math, Apologia, WriteShop, Gileskirk/Kings Meadow, and many other materials. I love great books and a Socratic, interactive method of learning. While in high school I taught piano for 5 years, taught art one year, and participated in NCFCA speech and debate league, where I made it to the national championship twice. I was the recipient of the North Carolinians for Home Education Arts Scholarship. Currently I'm a literature major attending Patrick Henry College on 4 different merit scholarships, with a 3.87 GPA. Please contact me if there is any way I can serve your homeschool. I would love to help build your student's love for learning!

Fantastic Tutor! Highly Recommend!

Anna has been an incredible Bible study teacher for my daughter. We have worked with her for more than five years now, and I truly cannot say enough good things about her. She is kind, reliable, punctual, communicative, and exceptionally knowledgeable about the Bible. More importantly, she has a wonderful way of teaching that really connects with my daughter. My daughter really looks forward to her lessons and has learned so much from the time they have spent together.
