Hello,

My name is Colleen B. I graduated from King's College with a dual general and special education certification and a minor in biology. I have taught grades K to 2 in general and special education and am going into my 7th year of teaching. I am also currently going back to school for my masters as a reading specialist and educational leader. I am train in LETRS and Project Read. I have used Fountas and Pinnel in my classroom as well. In math, I use manipulatives and a very hands on approach to support your child.
I love to sing, dance, and learn with your students and have a true passion for education. Let's celebrate your child's success together!

Tutoring online can be tough in math, however this past year I have been trained to use manipulatives online with students. Hands-on and real-life approaches in Math not only make math time fun, but help your student think critically about the problem which is an important 21st century skill.

Fountas and Pinnel is a read aloud approach that includes teaching specific story elements such as plot, problem/solution, main idea and key details. I trained in this program and have training directly from Rutgers reading coaches within the classroom to provide best practices in guided reading and literacy approaches. I look forward to reading with your child.

LETRS is a systematic phonics program I was trained in this year. Its approach is every child can read if taught the 44 phonemes and their sounds. As a special education teacher for 5 years, phonics has been my main focus for below grade level students. I have had great success using the Project Read curriculum which breaks down letters and their sounds into manageable units and I look forward to using this approach with your child!

Teaching has been my passion for over a decade now. I love learning new approaches and truly enjoy the career I have chosen. Getting to know my students is always a joy. I hope to have the opportunity to work with your family as a new school year approaches. - Mrs. B.
