All tutors are required to take an in-depth class that trains how to individualize tutoring services for each tutee. For each student, I typically begin all with a Goals Analysis and a Personality Analysis so I can apply these unique tutoring methods. My typical tutoring methods include: creating a testing environment during each tutoring session to help mentally prepare for exam settings, providing indirect answers and clues to let the tutee solve problems on their own, and providing a positive atmosphere for students to learn and enjoy the subject at hand.
Personally, my favorite thing about tutoring is when I can show and convince a student that a certain concept or idea is fundamentally beautiful and interesting, no matter how much the student dislikes the subject. It shows me that certain aspects of math and science can inspire all people, despite how difficult or counterintuitive it may seem.
Math: ACT Math, SAT Math, the Algebra sequence, Common Core, the Calculus sequence, the Differential Equations sequence, Linear Algebra.
Physics: Highschool Physics, College Physics 1 (Mechanics), College Physics 2 (Electricity and Magnetism), College Physics 3 (Modern Physics).
I am a third-year student at NCSU and have a flexible schedule that allows me to tutor on campus, typically in D.H. Hill Library. In my experience, students have enjoyed the comfortable, educational setting provided by the library, including a cafe, rentable textbooks, and plenty of whiteboards and markers.
