Good morning to all. I am happy to introduce myself as Shayila B. but everyone just calls me Shay. I hold a Master's Degree in History and I'm looking forward to being able to spread the knowledge that I have to students who may not be interested in History or just struggling a little with the subject. History is a subject, I am sad to say, that either you love or hate. (smiles) I want to teach students how and why they should love it.

In order to know where you're going, you have to know from whence you come. That is a motto by which I live and I would like to be able to pass that on to possible future historians. I have a passion for History, the stories, the events, and as I stated before, the importance of knowing our past.
I am currently studying to take the GRE exam again to go back to school for my Master's of Arts in Teaching degree. I believe that will allow me to bring forth even more of the teaching talent that I already have and give students a deeper appreciation of my subject matter.
As for tutoring methods- I would first like to get to know the student in order to get an understanding of where he/she is in the subject and to also know what type of learner he/she is. Once I get a handle on that, I would need to know where the student is struggling the most and get that under control. I believe that when a student is allowed to have fun with something, they learn faster and grasp the information better than if they are "bored." I would use games that appeal to their particular learning style and provide assignments that will encourage their growth and learning as well as interest in the subject.
I believe that teaching is a part of me because my mother was a Music teacher for 25 years and my father was a Linguistics professor for almost 30 years. No, neither one of those is my particular subject area but the love of teaching and learning has always been in me. I would like to share that with students and our future leaders.
