My name is Humairia. My students also call me Miss Areefa (my middle name) sometimes.
Thank you for visiting my profile and being interested in learning more about me. You can say I have quite a unique background with qualifications in both media-arts and science. I earned my 1st BA in Biology (major) from Kean University and then my 2nd BA in Media Studies (Film and Video Production) from University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG). I earned Magna Cum Laude in both Degrees. I believe in working smarter, not harder, towards your goals. That is why I love teaching because I think knowledge is supposed to be shared.
TOEFL/ESL Tutoring: I also teach ESL (English as a 2nd Language) and help with TOEFL preparation. I passed my TOEFL test on the very 1st attempt as I had a good tutor: my big brother (so I understand the importance of individual attention). I was accepted at several colleges with my TOEFL scores and quite honestly it did not take me more than just a couple of months of preparation. And after that I took many ESL courses in college and did very well in those. Eventually I did so well in all my ESL classes my adviser recommended me to take English classes with regular native speakers of English during my Undergraduate years. I am the youngest of my siblings from an immigrant family. So I have personal experience in ESL learning.
Other subjects I teach: ACT Science, ACT Reading, Writing, Study Skills and Video Production.
Yes I have worked with students from teens to adults. I pay careful attention to a student’s weaknesses and strengths and so I customize my teaching style according to the student and the type of subject.
I love to teach subject areas I really enjoyed learning myself as a student as I think that is the key to effective tutoring. I hope you will consider me in helping you with your subject needs. You will be satisfied with the results.
