Hi there!
I'm Brandon, a professional tutor with 16 years of experience helping high school and college students succeed in math and physics. I hold a B.S. in Nuclear Engineering from NC State University, where I was a Duke scholar, and I earned a Master-level tutor certification from the College Reading & Learning Association.
I currently serve as a professional tutor at Sandhills Community College, and before dedicating myself to tutoring full-time, I worked as a pharmaceutical chemist and an electrical engineer — so I've genuinely used the math and physics I teach in real-world, high-stakes work.

My tutoring philosophy is simple: understanding beats memorizing. Every student starts with an honest look at where their foundation is strong and where the gaps are, and then we build from there, step by step. I explain each concept in plain language, we work through problems together, and then you tackle them on your own until the skill sticks. My engineering and chemistry background lets me connect abstract ideas to how they're actually used, which makes concepts click and stay. Students describe me as patient, structured, and direct — I'll tell you exactly what needs work, and we'll fix it. I work with high school and college students in math and physics, including AP coursework and SAT/ACT test preparation.

Nothing beats watching a concept click for a student who was struggling. If you're falling behind in class, preparing for an exam, or looking to get ahead, I'd love to help you truly understand the material and walk into your next test with confidence.

Approved Subjects

Algebra 1

Algebra 1

I've tutored Algebra 1 since 2010, helping high school students master linear equations, inequalities, systems of equations, factoring and functions - the foundation everything in math builds on. Many of my students arrive struggling with the leap from arithmetic to abstract thinking, so I focus on making variables and equations feel concrete before building to problem solving fluency. As a nuclear engineer and CRLA Master-certified tutor, I connect each concept to how it's actually used in geometry, algebra 2, and beyond. My goal is for students to leave every session more confident than they arrived.
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

I've tutored Algebra 2 since 2010, helping students tackle quadratics, polynomials, logarithms, rational expressions, and the function transformations where courses get serious. I focus on connecting Algebra 1 skills to the new level of abstraction so students stop memorizing procedures and start reasoning through problems. With a BS in Nuclear Engineering and CRLA Master-level certification, I show how each topic feeds directly into precalculus and calculus. Every session ends with the student able to explain the concept back to me.
Calculus

Calculus

I've tutored calculus since 2010 — limits, derivatives, integrals, and applications — with an engineering lens you won't get from a textbook. My BS in Nuclear Engineering from NC State means I teach calculus the way it's actually used: rates of change, accumulation, and modeling real systems, not just symbol-pushing. I combine a conceptual framework with timed problem drills, so students handle both classroom exams and AP-style questions. CRLA Master-certified, and every plan starts from where the student actually is.
Microsoft Excel

Microsoft Excel

I have been a subject matter expert in Microsoft Excel for over a decade. My work experience along with my extensive tutoring experience will help students learn the basics and fundamentals of Microsoft Excel. I will help students analyze data, create charts and graphs, perform calculations, set up sheets, format data, and so much more! Students will leave each session with a better understanding of how to use Microsoft Excel.
Prealgebra

Prealgebra

I've tutored pre-algebra since 2010, guiding students through integers, fractions, ratios, basic equations, and the first steps into variables and expressions. This is where math habits get built, so I focus on rock-solid fundamentals — no rushing past the basics that algebra will assume. As a nuclear engineer and CRLA Master-certified tutor, I make abstract ideas concrete with real examples students actually remember. The goal is a student who walks into Algebra 1 confident instead of catching up.
Precalculus

Precalculus

I've tutored precalculus since 2010, covering function analysis, trigonometry, vectors, sequences, series, and the limits preview that sets up calculus. I specialize in the exact stumbling points where students trip before AP Calculus or college math: trigonometric identities, function composition, and the algebra fluency calculus assumes. As an engineer and CRLA Master-certified tutor, I make sure students arrive in calculus fluent, not catching up.
