I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology with a minor in Genetics from North Carolina State University in May 2026. My academic background includes coursework in General and Medical Microbiology, Genetics, Molecular Genetics, Molecular Virology, Immunology, Biochemistry, Cancer Cell Biology, and Molecular and Cellular Biology. I also have extensive hands-on laboratory experience in microbiology and molecular biology through my coursework and research.
My primary teaching experience comes from serving as a Teaching Assistant for NC State’s Phage Isolation and Phage Genome Annotation courses. In this role, I worked with undergraduate students in laboratory and classroom settings, helping them understand course concepts, develop experimental designs, troubleshoot laboratory procedures, and interpret their results. I have also provided one-on-one academic assistance to my younger sister and my friend Haley, adapting my explanations to their individual needs and levels of understanding.
My tutoring approach focuses on helping students understand concepts rather than simply memorize information. I start by identifying what a student already understands and where they are having difficulty, then break challenging topics into smaller, manageable concepts. I use guided questions, examples, diagrams, and practice problems when appropriate, and encourage students to explain concepts in their own words. I am particularly comfortable tutoring biology, microbiology, genetics, molecular biology, and related science courses.
