Hi, I'm Sara! I'm a premed student at NC State University majoring in Biological Sciences with a concentration in Molecular and Developmental Biology. Growing up between Mexico and the US gave me a unique perspective on learning across languages and cultures. I learned to adapt and develop different learning/studying strategies that helped me excel no matter the school or subject. These strategies were largely influenced by a medical student who was a mentor of mine and who taught me how she studied in med school. Knowing not just the material but HOW to study is essential for success both in high school and beyond.
These studying strategies and habits helped me graduate Summa Cum Laude in high school, make it to Dean's List in college, score a 32 on my ACT (with a 34 in the math section), a 5 on the AP Calc AB, BC, and AP Bio exams, and a 4 on the AP Physics exam. I have also achieved an A+ in all but one (which was an A) of my classes in college, including General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Physics, and Biology. As a result, I have been tutoring other students for the last three years, teaching them how I study through active recall, providing practice, and even making creative visuals that simplify difficult material.
I offer tutoring in both Spanish and English. Growing up between Mexico and the US, I've seen firsthand how language barriers affect students. When school is in a different language than the one spoken at home, students often feel like they lack the support of their parents. Having a Mexican mother whose first language is Spanish, I understand this difficulty on a personal level. Therefore, it is one of my priorities to bridge this gap. I hope to be able to provide support for students in as many ways as I can, including through language adaptations, studying resources, and interactive lessons that focus on active self-testing strategies rather than passive learning. Please contact me with any questions or to schedule a tutoring session!
