Hi! My name is Mark, and I look forward to working with you!

I’ve enjoyed over 20 years of teaching, coaching, and mentoring secondary, collegiate, and adult learners. I hold a B.A. in Communication, a teaching credential in English, and an M.A. equivalency in Communications. Beyond academics, I bring real-world experience that helps connect learning to practical outcomes. As an entrepreneurial business owner, I started a leaders school where my team and I trained 200 students from 20 nations. I’ve had the privilege of traveling to 38 countries and working in 19 of those, requiring high emotional intelligence and great people skills.

When I was in school, the classes I liked most were as much about the teacher/professor as the subject content. I do everything I can to make learning an enjoyable experience. Most students are capable, but they just haven’t found an approach that fits with how they learn. I help my students find clarity and confidence. When we work together, I seek to understand how you think and what could be getting in the way. I take complex material and break it down into clear, manageable pieces, explaining the “why” so the learning actually sticks. My sessions are structured to be encouraging, and I adjust in real time based on what you need in the moment.

I approach tutoring as a collaborative partnership built around your goals. If you’re looking for a supportive, thoughtful tutor with lots of real-world experience who will meet you where you are and really help you grow in your subject and in general as a person, I’d be glad to work with you.

Approved Subjects

Bible Studies

Bible Studies

Started and scaled 3 churches where I was the primary teaching pastor. I have studied and taught the Bible personally and professionally, and I have written hundreds of Bible studies, Biblically-based classes, and entire Bible school curricula.
Debate

Debate

I was on my collegiate debate team and I won contests in Original Oratory. I am a debate advocate, not merely at the academic level but also in real life politics, religion, and other challenging topics. I believe the world would be a better place if we could learn to disagree agreeably, using inductive and deductive reasoning instead of emotions and exposing logical fallacies to help create fair and honest dialogue and disagreements.
English

English

I've taught English to students from junior high to adults, both here in the U.S. and overseas. I am a published author, and I have been a keynote presenter hundreds of time. I am a big fan of great communication so that people can express themselves well and connect with others. Knowing the English language is a big part of that. I can help students who want to grow in any and all aspects of English, including reading, writing, grammar, and vocabulary.
Executive Functioning

Executive Functioning

I have 20+ years of experience starting, scaling, and strengthening multiple companies and organizations in business, nonprofit, and education sectors. I serve with high emotional intelligence and executive communication, and I understand how to relate well to ELTs, Boards, and Stakeholders. I have a proven track record of leading with strategic vision, architecting great culture, building cross-functional teams, improving systems, and streamlining organizational processes.
Grammar

Grammar

I'm a big fan of great grammar. From driving behind trash trucks with stickers that say, "Don't follow to closely" to knowing that punctuation saves lives ("Let's eat grandma!" v. "Let's eat, grandma!"), I can help you improve grammatically--or as one president put it, 'grammerically.'
Vocabulary

Vocabulary

"It remains preeminently salubrious to eschew the employment of recondite and uncustomary idiomatic locutions."
Writing

Writing

As a veteran English teacher and tutor, I understand and teach all aspects of writing. I have also written 5 nonfiction books, as writing is my passion!
