I hold an undergraduate degree in Biosystems Engineering from Auburn University and recently completed my PhD in Biological and Agricultural Engineering at North Carolina State University with a GPA of 3.97. I have previous experience at the Wade Edwards Learning Lab as a one-on-one volunteer tutor for highschool students in subjects including pre-calculus, environmental science, and American history. During graduate school my favorite work involved my mentoring of an undergraduate research assistant in our laboratory. I took great pride in being able to teach her about complicated subjects and empowering her to carry out experiments in the lab. I have also recently gained classroom experience lecturing to undergraduate students in Engineering courses at North Carolina State University which has confirmed my passion for teaching.
Throughout my academic and teaching experience, I have gained insight into different teaching methods that have allowed me to learn and grow. In particular, I have found that my best experiences have been with teachers and professors who provide a comfortable setting for students to ask and answer questions. The more discussion that is involved in the teaching process, the more information that students retain. If given the opportunity to tutor a student, I would strive to make them comfortable with asking questions, answering questions, and providing reasoning behind their answers. I understand the impact that a high-quality and caring teacher can have on the trajectory of a student's life and I hope to be able to fill this role for my students.
