One of the most important things I have learned along my journey as a student is that to study effectively, students must first understand their learning style: visual, auditory, reading, writing, or kinesthetic. What qualifies me as a good tutor is my creativity to diversify the learning environment and account for students who need the information to be presented in a style that fits them.

My academic leadership journey started in High School, where I was a part of Mu Alpha Theta and tutored students in NC Math 3 for 1 year after school and during our free block. Later on in college, I continued by hosting study groups in my courses and helping students one-on-one in Circuits 1. Since circuit analysis is an iterative process, creating acronyms has been a strong tool I use within my groups and tutoring to simplify memorization.
On my recent endeavors of traveling to Rwanda to teach middle school students, I had to work around the challenge of teaching beyond a language barrier between English and Kinyarwanda. Although there were translators, some concepts got lost in translation. Therefore, to confirm and solidify the material, I incorporated dances and physical demonstrations. For example, to demonstrate the movement of electricity, I made dance moves for voltage pushing, resistance slowing down, and current flowing. I believe initiatives like this help reinforce the material.
I look forward to tutoring with Wyzant to apply my creativity to help students sharpen their classroom material recall and application, and become more confident learners.
