I’ve had a long journey. It all started when I was only 14 yo and tutored children from my neighborhood. The excitement about it was that I was able to teach any subjects and help my students to succeed. I then decided to become an English teacher and got my first degree from a college in my homework in Brazil. After that, I pursued an MA degree in British Literature from a college in Missouri. Then, I got a Ph.D. In Higher and Adult Ed. with a concentration in TESOL. During my time at Arizona State University, I was a teaching associate and taught Freshman Composition to international students and worked in the Writing Center of the English Dept. and helped not only international students but also American students. Then, I became a professor of English at a college in Türkiye and worked there till I retired in December 2018. There I taught reading, writing, speaking, and listening courses to engineering students and in the last years of my career, I was assigned to the English Language Teaching Dept. where I worked with future English teachers. I taught classes and chaired the Dept. After I retired, I taught one more semester in the English Dept. and then I became a tutor. At first, I had face-to-face classes but with the COVID pandemic I had to stop. From 2020 to June, 2022, I was not able to teach but when things got back to normal, I got a job as an English teacher at a language school in the city in which I lived in Turkiye. I’ve been teaching there since and although I moved to the US last year, I continue to tutor students online. My students are young learners of English as a Foreign Language, elementary school age, as well as high schoolers and college students. I teach from A2 level of English fluency to C1. This has been my journey as a teacher of English.
