I love to show children how to blend and use digraphs in sounding put words. In order to speak, read and learn to be better at this, speech is so, so important.
I believe children must learn the correct sounds of words in order to speak and think. It is not just in knowing the A B C song, but it is in about knowing the correct pronunciation of those sounds.
