As a long-time English/Reading instructor, writer, editor, proofreader, and Communications specialist, I have the skills and the dedication to help with any writing, grammar, or reading-comprehension problem. In my work as a college-level English instructor, I've noticed that too many students fail to succeed in their English and Reading courses because they don't understand the simple basics of English grammar.

I also see every day that students lack the level of vocabulary needed to communicate intelligently and to progress in their high school and college classes. I'm a patient and devoted tutor, but I always expect my students to exceed their own expectations for themselves, and success in English begins with vocabulary.

English should be easy because, for most of us, it's our native language. However, most of us have learned it badly, and our reliance on texting and other electronic shortcuts has contributed to our language deficiencies.

Some things have to be learned and understood from the inside out. That's how I tutor students in English, Reading, and general Communications. One of my former Developmental English students at Fayetteville Technical Community College is now on a full scholarship to UNC-Chapel Hill, and his beautiful application essay surely contributed to his selection!

During the past semester, I have been working primarily with students wishing to improve their AccuPlacer scores or to prepare for the SAT. I'm always interested in helping students move toward their ultimate goals.

As an English instructor, I work daily with students who need to master the essay form, as well as the use of the MLA format. Since grammar is my specialty, I feel quite comfortable with any questions pertaining to an individual paper or to the writing process itself. I began tutoring high school students when I was an eighth-grader, so I can certainly assist with college essays.

Exceptional

Mary is a great tutor. I needed some essays proofread for an application and she was able to read and edit all three papers immediately. She is one of the only tutors that has a 7 minute reply time. I had an exceptional experience.

Outstanding tutor with extensive experience and deep passion for English language!

I have a diverse college experience: I have finished medical school in a foreign country, and currently pursuing my Master degree in PA studies in the US. English is a second language for me, and I worked with Mary to improve my English speaking skills. I had different professors and instructors through my college years, and Mary exceeded my expectations. She is extremely intelligent, knowledgeable, and experienced instructor. Mary has genuine love for the English language and is very passionate about subject she teaches. She has a special gift to create a friendly atmosphere and positive educational climate for the student. I had an awesome learning experience with Mary! I would highly recommend her to any student looking for an English teacher.
