I am a middle school science teacher with classroom experience teaching 6th, 7th, and 8th grade science in North Carolina. I hold a Bachelor's degree from Florida State University and am certified to teach middle school science and high school biology. My teaching experience has focused on helping students understand science concepts, interpret graphs and data, use academic vocabulary accurately, and explain their thinking through evidence-based writing. I work with middle school students daily, so I understand the common gaps students bring into science class, especially when they are asked to move beyond memorizing facts and actually apply concepts to new situations.
My tutoring approach is structured, patient, and practical. I begin by identifying what the student already understands, then I break the skill or concept into manageable steps. I use clear explanations, visuals, guided practice, and frequent check-ins to make sure the student is not just getting the right answer, but understanding why the answer makes sense. I have experience supporting students one-on-one, in small groups, and in full classroom settings, including students who need help with organization, confidence, reading science passages, graph interpretation, test preparation, and written responses.
I specialize in middle school science, including life science, Earth science, physical science, scientific reasoning, and science test prep. I am especially strong at helping students prepare for state-style science questions that require them to analyze diagrams, interpret data tables, compare models, and write claim-evidence-reasoning responses. My goal is for students to leave tutoring sessions with more confidence, clearer thinking, and specific strategies they can use independently in class and on assessments.
