Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I have successfully taught algebra to students of all ages. With one-on-one tutoring, students soon begin to understand the concepts and become successful in applying them.

Algebra 2

I have helped many students with their Algebra 2. Without a good background in Algebra it is very difficult to succeed in many subjects. Not only do I help students bring up their grades, but I also try to make sure that they understand the material as we go over it. With one-on-one tutoring, I am able to see exactly where each student is having difficulty, and address those individual areas. Soon the students understand what they are doing and their grades will improve.

Elementary (K-6th)

I taught 6 - 8th grade students in a private middle School for 9 years. I have experience with Elementary School children.

Elementary Math

I am currently tutoring two 4th grade students. They are both doing very well and their test scores are showing great improvement. I know that I can also be successful with your child, and they will soon begin to enjoy a subject they now understand.

GED

I have assisted many students in passing standardized tests, including the G.E.D. Being able to understand what a problem is asking you to do is often the largest stumbling block. I will help you learn what is needed for each problem and you will soon be able to see your success. The most important part is to get started with the help that you need, and you have already done that by contacting Wyzant. Now let's get started with your tutoring.

General Computer

I began working with computers in 1980. There have been many changes since then, however, I have remained current with these changes. Although I began working on an Apple, most of my experience has been with a PC. The machine I work on now has Windows 7 and office 2007. I am able to figure out most programs and continue to help my colleagues learn the programs with which they are working. Although I don't do much work on the inside of the computer (hardware), give some software, and I will figure it out.

Geometry

I have many years of experience teaching geometry. I find it one of the most interesting topics in math. I am able to show students how everything they are learning fits together. This gives them the understand necessary to be successful in this area of mathematics.

Linear Algebra

I have over 25 years of experience teaching math. I have taught 6th grade math through Calculus on the university level. Many of these courses include linear algebra in the curriculum. I have written lessons for interactive boards and power point lessons on linear algebra. I am very well versed in this area.

Prealgebra

I have many years of experience teaching both pre-algebra and algebra. This allows me to know what concepts a pre-algebra student needs, and in what area they may have difficulty. I can then tailor the tutoring sessions to the areas most necessary.

Precalculus

Precalculus is a subject that I enjoy very much. Many students do very well in the one-on-one setup with a tutor that can explain concepts which seemed difficult in the classroom. I am sure that your son or daughter will soon gain confidence in his or her abilities once he or she understands the underlying rationale for each concept.

SAT Math

I have experience tutoring individual students preparing for the SAT and teaching classes to prepare the students for this test. I am competent with the subject areas covered by this test and am able to explain the methods used for their solutions. I know the importance of the SAT, so you can trust that I will help each student study to do well on it.

Trigonometry

I have been teaching for over 30 years, many of which included courses from Geometry through Calculus that all include trigonometry. Geometry introduces a student to at least the basic three trig functions, sin(x), cos(x), and tan(x). I have also taught Pre-Calculus using the ABeka curriculum and text book. This curriculum is very heavy in the trigonometry area. I have also taught calculus which teaches the student how to find the derivative and integral of the trig functions.
