My name is Jennifer. I worked with students while working for a non-profit. I tutored young and older students alike when they became involved with this non-profit. I found this work very rewarding. My tutoring helped these students remain in school. I worked as a community educator with this same non-profit. I have worked with students from all backgrounds and at different academic levels. I have also worked with students with special challenges. I gave presentations in our schools and team taught with teachers. The students' sense of humor and eagerness to learn enriched my life in many ways.
I have a bachelor's degree in English with a minor in chemistry and an MPA. I love reading and writing and sharing this love with students. A knowledge of the natural world opens all types of doors for students. Reading literature also opens doors to new worlds and experiences. Tutoring students not only enriches and improves their lives but enriches my life and provides me with the rewarding experience of watching students learn and grow.
My approach to tutoring is to discuss the students schoolwork and concerns with the student and parent (if applicable) and then to sit down and analyze the level of the student's work. I work on the problems with the student and ask for feedback. For example, if we are reading I determine whether the student is having problems with understanding context by sentence and word cues and analysis.
