Hello, I’m Mr. H! I graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor’s degree in English Secondary Education and I have been teaching high school for over seven years now. I currently teach sophomores, helping them to prepare for the NC English II EOC. In 2025, I received the Teacher of the Year award at my high school and the Secondary Teacher of the Year award for my school district.

As an ELA instructor, I am adept at teaching literary analysis, writing, reading comprehension, and grammar. Due to preparing students for the English II EOC, I have become particularly proficient in helping students comprehend informational writing, analyze text structure, and implement textual evidence. I have tutoring experience through working with my students one-on-one during study hall, using differentiated instruction as a means of identifying academic weaknesses and gaps in understanding while providing tools to facilitate future success.

My approach to teaching and tutoring revolves around student engagement and consistently monitoring student comprehension. I use lesson plans in which I introduce the material in a way that draws the student in and appeals to their sense of curiosity. Afterwards, I convey crucial information in a way that is easily comprehensible to students of all ability levels before giving them time to practice utilizing the new information during an exercise or assignment.
