My name is Dr. Mike Lefko. I am a 35 year educator with experience as a special education teacher and school leader k-12. I came back to the classroom recently because I love working with students. My specialties include reading, writing, math (k-8), organizational and study skills and social skills. Hi. I have been a special education teacher working with students ages K - post graduate for the past 26 years. I have experience teaching reading, writing and math to student with specific learning disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD as well as students with other exceptionalities. My nurturing manner, and my belief that every child can succeed if provided with the targeted instruction and someone that believes in them, has made me successful as an educator for over 25 years.

I have taught special education in the areas of reading, writing and math at the elementary, middle school levels and some high school over the past 25 years. I have a sensitivity to working with students who have challenges in particular academic areas, and a desire to develop a relationship with your student, aside from academics because I strongly believe if you are going to teach them, you first have to reach them.

I am Orton Gillingham trained and use a phonics based approach for decoding and fluency that incorporates Orton Gillingham and other methods I have learned and practiced over the years.

I currently work as a teacher and academic director at an expedition-based boarding school for students with ADD and ADHD and we work daily and weekly on executive functioning skills, including study skills.

Mike is very friendly and patient with my son. My son enjoyed learning under Mike. Mike is very planned and made my son take the assessment test in order to find where my son is lacking. He also helped us understand the plan of action and strategies to help improve his reading. My son did not feel stressed and was at ease.
