Prior to my retirement a few years back, I was a teacher for ~10 years at Western Carolina University in the department of Psychology (I was there for 10 years). I have a Ph.D. in Psychology and taught courses in Statistics, Research Design and Data Analysis, Sensation and Perception, and Neuropsychology. I also performed scientific studies of human perception and behavior.
Statistics is a course some students dread because they feel they are just not good at math. One of the real pleasures in teaching this course was to calm their fears -- see the light come on, see them loosen up and start actually enjoying the experience of learning what they thought they could never learn. I found that I could help them get to that point by speaking in everyday language, not academic talk, using humor and common everyday examples that everyone is familiar with.
To supplement my tutoring, I have written a complete study guide (MS Word document) that I provide to all students (for free). This guide includes all of the statistical methods typically covered in Introductory Statistics courses.
