My goal in life is to leave the world as a better place than when I entered it. I believe this goal can be achieved by understanding the world around us. I have many different facets of my life. I love Science and gained a bachelor degree in Biology with a biomedical emphasis. During the same time I was in college I served 6 years in the United States Marine Corps Reserves as an M1A1 Tank crewmen. I also spent a year during microgravity research on biomedical mechanisms through a program by NASA and was able to conduct our teams research onboard NASA’s microgravity aircraft. Helping students with their educational endeavors has always been a joy of mine that I have found ways to be able to accomplish. Originally my goal was to attend medical school. However, recently I have altered my plans and decided to instead attend Business School and obtain an MBA. This change in plans was not an easy one to make but was necessary in order for me to be true to myself. I believe being true to oneself is often times easier said than done. I believe sharing that experience can also help others in their own lives.
I have gained several years of experience helping students learn subject matter material that is necessary for their success. Based on my experience, depending on the age and level of the student often dictates what the student needs. However, an overall theme that I have noticed is usually it’s not the student's ability to learn the material that is the problem but often times it’s how the material is presented. I taught 8th-grade science for a year and brought the EOG average of my class up over 40% overall. With those students, it was clear to me that their problem and the problem of the students that I tutored at the college level was similar. The material often times was foreign to them or the terminology used intimidated them. Overall my past students just needed the support and confidence to allow themselves to realize that the material was not as boring or nearly as hard as they might have assumed at first
