My approach to tutoring is simple: every student can succeed with the right support, strategy, and encouragement.
In high school, I was a National Merit commended scholar. I scored a 34 on the ACT, with a 36 on the English section, 35 on Reading, 33 on Math, and 33 on Science. I also scored a 5 on the AP Literature and AP US History exams, and a 4 on AP Language.
For college, I was accepted to prestigious universities like Columbia University, Davidson College, UNC Chapel Hill, and Vanderbilt University. I received a full-ride merit scholarship (worth $100k) to attend UNC Charlotte, where I graduated summa cum laude with triple degrees in Economics, Psychology, and Philosophy. I was selected as 1 of 20 recipients from a pool of over 1400 applicants. I traveled to 20 countries, worked in research and NGOs, and founded my own campus health project, accruing $16k in grant funding. I am very familiar with the college admissions, scholarship essay, and grant writing processes.
I am a committed educator with years of experience. I taught high school English for a year with a focus on English 2 (world literature and composition), and English 4 (British literature). I have taught social studies (with a focus on world history) and have now taught science for two years (earth/space sciences, physical sciences, life sciences, and engineering). In college at UNC Charlotte, I was a writing tutor for 3 semesters, specifically working with students writing scientific research reports and received consistently high reviews. I was also a TA for psychology research methods.
As a teacher, I was selected as my school's Beginning Teacher of the Year during my first year in the classroom. I am comfortable working with students of all skill levels and needs -- including students with IEPs, 504 plans, English language learning needs, and more. I have earned exceptional performance reviews from my administrators and routinely receive strong feedback from my students and parents.
