Hello, I'm Madison! I just graduated from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte with a major in Spanish Language and Literature, and a major in Latin American Studies. I finished in 3.5 years! I fell in love with the Spanish language and culture and decided to pursue it as my career. During my time at UNCC, I studied abroad in Argentina. That experience shaped me as a Spanish learner, a Spanish speaker, and a Spanish teacher.
I have 4+ years experience of being a private Spanish tutor for a family friend, and it has been a very rewarding experience, and I took an education course during my college career. My favorite part of tutoring is seeing the "light bulb moment" in a student when the concept finally clicks, and then watching them retain the knowledge I taught them.
I started my Spanish education in high school where I excelled in the topic and took Spanish 1-4. I tried to create an AP Spanish course in my high school, but I didn't have as many students who were as willing to take it as I was. When I entered college, I was able to skip a few courses through a Spanish placement test, which led to me to complete two full majors within 3.5 years. My degree led to a two week course taught in Argentina in the spring of 2018, which was a faculty-led program through the cities of Buenos Aires, Tucumán, and Córdoba. My double major in Latin American Studies has given me ample historical background to the language I learned and is another aspect I am able to teach with ease.
I might not have as much experience as some tutors, but I am a new and bright eyed tutor who is passionate about learning and teaching, and is ready to gain experience. I am more than happy to create lesson plans, reviews, tests, flashcards, and other study materials for my students and will always be of help and assistance to them. I understand how difficult and overwhelming learning a new language can be, therefore I strive to make it an enjoyable experience where the student retains it for life, not just a semester.
