I retired in 2001 from a major pharmaceutical company where I managed the computer training for a large sales force. Much of it was proprietary applications but very often many had never used a computer and was afraid of it. My patience and encouragement was the key to helping these very intelligent reps complete their computer training. I also managed a computer based training center and developed interactive product knowledge computer applications for the sales force. I am not a technical person, I don't program but have become proficient in the basics of computer skills and Microsoft office, which I currently teach for a local community college.
I love to keep busy and so I have attempted to open several businesses over the years, but find it difficult without major funding. However, I owned a landscape business for over 5 years and loved making stone and brick patios, designing and planting. gardens. I currently own a beading jewelry company and teach the craft for a local college along with a basic computer skills. course. I love to keep active, and learn as much as I can. I'm always looking for a challenge. I like teaching to be laid back and fun when possible. I believe we all learn better when we're calm and enjoying the learning experience.
I know it's often confusing and overwhelming to learn the basics and new applications. That's why patience is a key to learning and teaching. No one learns the same way. Repetition is also a way to ingest and the road to remembering what is being taught. I love teaching the basics and Word 2016. I am currently teaching a group of seniors, most who have never used a computer before and all are on a different level of knowledge. It's challenging but when they begin to understand, its rewarding to see that light go on.
