I began tutoring my peers in high school (primarily in math subjects) and continued the practice during my undergraduate studies at Centre College. While in college, I participated in the After School Program and Girls in Engineering, Math, and Science (GEMS). The former was a one-on-one tutoring program to help low-income students with their homework after school. GEMS was a program we implemented in two local middle schools and involved weekly activities to introduce scientific and computer science concepts to girls in the schools.
Additionally, I served as the Intro to Statistics tutor for the Math Department in my senior year. I held help sessions three times a week and loved working with students to improve their math skills. I had several regulars, and they commented on my kindness and approachability.
In my time in graduate school at the University of Kentucky, I led seven recitation sections for the Economics and Business Statistics course, which involved reviewing and practicing concepts learned in their primary lectures for the class. I enjoyed the opportunity to work with students in a smaller classroom setting and help them iron out problem areas. In my teaching evaluations, I had several students comment that I excel at explaining complicated concepts in a simple way.
I also served as a lead instructor for two sections of Principles of Microeconomics, one small, in-person class and one large, online and asynchronous class. In both cases, students were able to ask for help during office hours.
My research interests fall under the public health and health economics umbrella and I have extensive data analysis/research experience. I work primarily with Stata and Excel for analysis.

I've worked with data analysis models and software since undergrad. I primarily use Stata for analysis, but have also used the analysis add-on in Excel. In my graduate degree, I've taken multiple Econometrics courses involving panel data, cross-sectional data, and longitudinal data. I've also taught Business Statistics recitations and helped students learn data analysis principles such as t-tests, ANOVA, linear regression, and multiple regression models. I've also worked as a research assistant performing data cleaning and analysis tasks for a variety of projects.

Skilled, supportive, and highly effective tutor.

Marissa worked with me throughout my semester in Business Statistics II. This course was known as one of the most difficult in my college. As someone with a minimal statistics background and limited confidence in quantitative-related classes, I was seeking a tutor who could break down the lessons and guide me through my homework. Marissa did just that! She worked with me once or twice a week, went through lessons with me, worked on homework, went over practice exams, made the content easy to understand, and, most importantly, gave me the confidence to succeed in a class I was afraid I would not pass. On top of her great tutoring, she was also super flexible with my busy schedule and always very communicative. I could not have asked for a better tutor and support throughout this class and semester. I recommend her to anyone looking for a tutor in her subjects, and she will be the first I go to if I ever take a statistics course again. Thank you, Marissa!
