Hi there! I'm Isley, and I am a senior at Appalachian State University studying Elementary Education with a concentration in psychology. I am also working on my Master's degree in Reading education. I'm very passionate about teaching and love working with students! I strive to curate personalized lessons for my students by using their interests to promote interest and understanding. Becoming a teacher has always been a goal of mine, and through working with students in and out of the classroom, I have gained experience and knowledge.
Before college, I worked in a 4th-grade classroom, where I observed, created, and performed a math lesson. In college, I have worked with students in grades 1, 2, and 3. I had the opportunity to create reading lessons, serve as an interventionist, administer and analyze reading assessments, and much more. In this, I have seen growth with students, big and small. I worked at App State's Anderson Reading Clinic, where I worked with struggling 1st- and 2nd-grade students. In this clinic, we worked on reading, phonics, and writing. These students demonstrated a tremendous amount of growth in just 8 days.
I have also worked with students on their math skills, primarily with a 1st-grade student. She also demonstrated a notable amount of growth during my time working with her. In my math instruction, I incorporate as many tactile and visual elements as possible. I want to help students understand not just how to find answers in math but also why those answers make sense. I aim to show them that math is a part of everyday life, not just something they learn in class.
I love working with students and their parents and/or guardians to support them better. I am flexible, easy to work with, accommodating, and communicative. Feel free to reach out with any further comments, questions, and concerns or to schedule!
