Hi, I’m Noa! I have studied Mandarin Chinese continuously since kindergarten, beginning in an immersion language school and continuing through advanced coursework in middle and high school. I completed AP Chinese Language and Culture and was selected as a National Security Language Initiative for Youth (NSLI-Y) Chinese scholar, which allowed me to further develop my language skills through intensive study and cultural immersion while in Hsinchu Taiwan. I am currently a freshman at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, majoring in Asian Studies with a concentration in Chinese, and double majoring in Environmental Studies. This academic background has given me a strong foundation in reading, writing, listening, and speaking, as well as a deep appreciation for cultural context in language learning.

My tutoring experience includes one-on-one academic support and peer-based learning, where I tailor my teaching approach to each student’s goals and learning style. I focus on building confidence in speaking while reinforcing grammar, vocabulary, tones, and character recognition in a clear and structured way. Having learned Chinese through immersion programs, standardized coursework, and intensive study, I am able to explain challenging concepts in an approachable and relatable manner.

I am especially comfortable working with elementary, middle school, and high school students, as well as beginners in college-level Chinese courses. I understand both the academic expectations students face and the common challenges learners encounter when studying Mandarin. My goal is to create a supportive one-on-one learning environment where students feel encouraged, ask questions freely, and make consistent progress!
