I have been tutoring mathematics since 2002, working with students from elementary school through college algebra. Over the years, I have helped students with a wide range of abilities, including students who need to strengthen foundational skills, students who are struggling with their current coursework, and students preparing for more advanced mathematics or the GED. My experience includes elementary and middle school math, pre-algebra, Algebra 1 and 2, college algebra, geometry, and GED mathematics. I also have experience tutoring economics and computer-related subjects at the college level.

My goal is not simply to help students complete their homework, but to help them understand why the mathematics works and become more confident and independent problem solvers. I commonly use diagrams, visual models, examples, and step-by-step explanations to make difficult concepts easier to understand. Once a student becomes comfortable with a concept, I have them explain the process back to me and demonstrate how they would solve a problem independently. This helps me determine whether they truly understand the material rather than simply memorizing a procedure.

I hold a bachelor's degree in Business and Marketing Education with a concentration in Economics, along with graduate coursework from Fayetteville State University. I particularly enjoy working with students who have gaps in their mathematical foundation because I can identify the underlying skill that is causing difficulty and help them strengthen it while continuing to work toward their current academic goals. Whether a student needs to catch up, improve their grades, prepare for a test, or get ready for a more challenging math course, my goal is to help them develop the skills and confidence necessary to succeed.

Approved Subjects

Algebra 1

Algebra 1

I have been tutoring algebra since 2002, helping students develop a strong understanding of algebraic concepts and the problem-solving skills needed for success in higher-level mathematics. I work with students on expressions, equations, inequalities, exponents, polynomials, factoring, functions, graphing, systems of equations, and word problems. I use step-by-step explanations, visual models, examples, and guided practice to help students understand the reasoning behind the procedures rather than simply memorize steps. My goal is to help students become confident, accurate, and independent algebraic problem solvers while developing a strong foundation for Algebra 2 and beyond.
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

I have experience tutoring Algebra 2 and helping students strengthen the algebraic skills needed to succeed in the course. I can help students with functions, equations, graphing, exponents, polynomials, factoring, quadratic equations, systems, and other core Algebra 2 topics. My approach emphasizes understanding the steps and reasoning behind each problem, while also identifying and addressing gaps in prerequisite Algebra 1 skills. I use guided practice and explanations to help students become more confident and independent when working with challenging algebraic problems.
Elementary (K-6th)

Elementary (K-6th)

I can tutor Elementary English (grammar, spelling, and writing) and Elementary Math. I have tutored Elementary Math since 2002. From October 2010 until June 2011, I volunteered in a special education resource room working with children in grades 4-6 in subjects of math, reading and writing. During this time, I co-taught different reading skills such as inferences, making predictions, and comprehension skills. Near the end of the school year, I personally mentored the three sixth grade students in their research papers on a specific US President of their choosing.
Elementary Math

Elementary Math

I have been tutoring elementary mathematics since 2002 and have worked with students with a wide range of abilities and learning needs. I help students strengthen foundational skills such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals, place value, measurement, and problem-solving. My approach uses visual models, diagrams, examples, and step-by-step explanations to help students understand mathematical concepts rather than simply memorize procedures. I also help students build accuracy, confidence, and fluency so they are better prepared for more advanced mathematics.
GED

GED

I have experience helping students prepare for the GED, with a particular focus on the mathematics portion of the exam. I help students strengthen skills in arithmetic, fractions, decimals, percentages, ratios, algebra, equations, geometry, graphs, statistics, and mathematical problem solving. My approach focuses on identifying gaps in foundational skills and teaching students how to apply mathematical concepts to the types of problems they will encounter on the GED. I also use practice questions and targeted review to help students improve both their accuracy and confidence before test day.
Prealgebra

Prealgebra

I have been tutoring prealgebra and foundational mathematics since 2002, helping students develop the skills they need to be successful in Algebra 1 and beyond. I work with students on integers, fractions, decimals, ratios, proportions, percentages, expressions, equations, exponents, coordinate graphs, and problem solving. I use visual models, diagrams, examples, and step-by-step explanations to help students understand concepts and identify gaps in their mathematical foundation. My goal is to help students become more accurate, confident, and independent while developing the skills necessary for more advanced mathematics.
