I help middle school, high school, and college students build genuine mathematical fluency.

I've tutored dozens of students, and I work equally well with advanced learners pushing ahead and with students for whom the word "math" alone sparks anxiety.

My sessions are calm and curiosity-driven. I emphasize conceptual understanding over memorization, because students remember and can flexibly apply what they actually understand. I've tutored dozens of students, and I work equally well with advanced learners pushing ahead and with students for whom the word "math" alone sparks anxiety.

I graduated Summa Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Middlebury College as a math major, where I won the department's award for best senior thesis. I then taught Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Precalculus, and AP Calculus AB full-time for two years while earning an MS in Education from the University of Pennsylvania. After a research fellowship in mathematical AI safety through a Stanford program, an MS in Machine Learning from Duke, and two years performing AI security audits at a startup, I returned to the work that brings me the most joy — focused one-on-one instruction that helps students get unstuck and move forward with confidence.

Approved Subjects

ACT Math

ACT Math

I love helping students earn the highest ACT math scores. Prepping for this test is a great chance to revisit, remaster, and synthesize foundational math topics from prior coursework. My approach: use plenty of high-quality problems to probe for concepts students haven't yet mastered, then fill in those gaps until there are none. Contact me today to get started!
Algebra 1

Algebra 1

I love tutoring Algebra 1, a foundational course where students master concepts they'll draw on for years to come. As a full-time classroom teacher, I taught a complete year-long Algebra 1 course, so I know exactly what's ahead and can teach with that bigger picture in mind. Algebra 1 also makes up a large portion of the SAT math section, so I like to weave in SAT-style questions along the way to help students prepare well ahead of time.
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

I love tutoring Algebra 2, a foundational course where students master concepts they'll draw on for years to come. I have taught everything from Pre-algebra through AP Calculus, so I know which particular topics in Algebra 2 are the most important for students to master for success down the road. Algebra makes up a large portion of the SAT math section, so I like to weave in SAT-style questions along the way to help students prepare well ahead of time. Contact me today to build a rock solid conceptual understanding of Algebra 2 that enables you to flexibly solve a wide variety of problems.
Calculus

Calculus

Calculus is my sweet spot when it comes to tutoring. As a full-time classroom teacher, I taught AP Calculus AB for two years. As a math major, I went deep into the subject — Calculus II, Multivariable Calculus, Real Analysis, Complex Analysis, and Functional Analysis. I find it deeply rewarding to help students build the conceptual understanding that leads to high scores on the AP Calculus AB or BC exam, or success in college-level Calculus.
Geometry

Geometry

Geometry is a uniquely beautiful high school math subject. For the first time, students are introduced to the concept of mathematical proof, an airtight logical argument that shows beyond the shadow of a doubt why a given statement is true. Geometry helps us learn to think like mathematicians and use math to reason and convince other people that our ideas are correct. I have a special love for teaching Geometry, and I would love to help you appreciate the subject as much as I do.
Prealgebra

Prealgebra

Prealgebra is such an important subject to master, so I take great care in my approach to teaching it. I have helped many students master Prealgebra over the years, including students with a strong math background and those with learning differences and math anxiety. I take a calm and gentle, yet rigorous approach that emphasizes conceptual understanding over rote memorization. Message me today, and let's get started!
Precalculus

Precalculus

As a former AP Calculus teacher, and as someone who concentrated in advanced Calculus as a college Mathematics major, I specialize in helping students master Calculus. This allows me to help Precalculus students approach their studies in a way that will set them up for success in Calculus. Even if a student doesn't plan to take Calculus later on, my vantage point allows me help students develop a rich understanding of Precalculus topics on their own merit. I have taught a year-long Precalculus course and helped many students build fluency with this subject. Contact me today, and let's get started on working towards mastery of Precalculus.
Probability

Probability

In my opinion, Probability is among the most engaging and stimulating subjects to learn and tutor. A good probability problem feels like a fun logic puzzle or brain teaser that really makes you think hard. I have a bachelor's degree in Math and a master's in Machine Learning. Probability is a huge part of how Machine Learning works, so I am very familiar with this topic. As a full-time math teacher, I taught a full unit on probability. I would love to help you master probability and enjoy the process.
SAT Math

SAT Math

Helping students reach their full potential on the SAT Math section is one of my specialties. I know the SAT Math section inside and out and have a vey strong track record of helping students master all the topics they can expect to encounter on the test. I teach students how to solve problems in the most time-efficient manner and coach them to develop fluency with the Desmos graphing calculator that they will use extensively on test day. I use plenty of high-quality problems to probe for concepts students haven't yet mastered and then work with them to fill in those gaps. Contact me today to start working towards mastery of all the topics you will need to be successful on the SAT Math section.
Trigonometry

Trigonometry

Trigonometry is essential to master for success in Algebra, Precalculus, and Calculus. I have taught all of these subjects, and helping students master trigonometry was a key part of my job. My approach emphasizes strong conceptual understanding of trigonometric functions and what they actually represent. My students learn the core topics of trigonometry, such as the Unit Circle, SOHCAHTOA, the Law of Sines, and the Law of Cosines, just like all student must. But I help my students understand clearly why these rules work instead of treating them as yet more formulas to memorize. Contact me today to begin working towards a conceptual mastery of trigonometry that enables you to flexibly solve a wide variety of problems.

Makes Learning Easy

My son really enjoys his tutoring sessions with Jack. He does a great job explaining math problems in a way that is simple and easy to understand. My son has told me that Jack’s explanations really help things click for him, especially when he’s struggling with a concept. We’ve had a great experience and definitely recommend him!

Tutor responded:

Sara, thank you for such thoughtful feedback. Your son has done a terrific job of preparing for the SAT Math section. When working through a problem, he explains his thinking clearly. He advocates for his own learning by telling me which particular topics he has struggled with in the past, making it easy for us to target his weaknesses. He listens carefully to each of my pointers and improves his approach accordingly. I am excited to see what he and I can achieve together.

Algebra 1

Jack did a great job with my daughter with online tutoring! He was very patient and works well with her. It was great that he has a first time free half hour meet and greet to see if they are compatible. I was very impressed so far with Jacks teaching style!
