I am Ms. Shandra and received an MM in piano pedagogy and performance from George Mason University in 2011 and a BA in flute performance from UCLA in 1994. I am currently pursuing a second Master's degree in injury preventive piano technique from Salem College in Winston-Salem.
I performed the first and second movements of "Danzas Argentinas by Alberto Ginastera at the Kennedy Center's Millennium Stage in August 2013. I attended professional piano training institutes such as Las Vegas Music Festival, Piano Summer at SUNY-New Paltz, and the Washington International Piano Festival held at Catholic University in Washington DC. I also attended Oberlin Flute Festival, Brevard Music Festival and Skidmore Flute Festival.
Additionally, I am preparing for a culminating Master's recital in April 2023. My diverse musical repertoire and extensive training in recital preparation can aid an advanced piano or flute student prepare for college auditions and competitions at the state and national level. I have devised practice and memorization techniques that will take my students to a higher level.
My piano and flute lessons focus on developing a well-rounded musician who is skilled in aural training, music theory, piano performance and/or flute performance, sight-reading and injury preventive technique. I incorporate body mapping and biomechanically efficient muscle use in lessons to achieve optimal sound and technique that allows freedom of expression
I require a 24-hour notice if you need to cancel a lesson. If you are more than 15 minutes late to your lesson, the time will be reduced to a 45-minute lesson at the hourly rate. Since each music lesson builds upon the previous lesson, it should be thought of as enrolling in a college level course. Consistent weekly practice is required to make steady progress.
