I have experience teaching English in a foreign country, and have done some no-charge tutoring for friends there for English as well as friends here for Chinese. I lived in Taiwan for three years. The primary language there is Mandarin Chinese. I took 2 years of Chinese in college before I went. I made every effort during my busy schedule to learn Chinese while I was there. By the time I left and came back to America, everyone there told me I my accent was that of a native speaker. I'm not fluent by a long shot, but that is mainly due to my lack of vocabulary. My pronunciation is perfect, and have a firm grasp of the grammar. It's been a few years since living there, but I still get the same comment every time I practice my Chinese with a Chinese person living here (usually in a restaurant), which is again that my accent is like a native speaker. Other than that, I enjoyed teaching and helping students understand and learn new things. I'm sure my new tutoring experiences will be just as rewarding.
