Welcome!
I’m a licensed biology educator (Virginia) with 10 years of classroom teaching experience. I hold an M.Ed in Secondary Education Curriculum and Instruction with a concentration in biology and a bachelor’s degree in marine biology. Most recently, I worked as a Biology Content Creator for Khan Academy, where I developed and reviewed middle and high school biology and life science lessons, practice exercises, assessments, and teacher resources.
Before Khan Academy, I taught high school Honors Biology and Oceanography in Fairfax County, Virginia. I worked with students with a wide range of abilities and learning needs, both in the classroom and through individual and small-group support. I have extensive experience with core course topics including genetics, evolution, ecology, cell biology, and other life science concepts. I also prepared students for the Virginia Biology SOL, with a 98% pass rate (15–25 percentage points above the county average).
My tutoring approach starts with figuring out where a student is getting stuck. I use clear explanations, diagrams, real-world examples, and practice exercises to help students understand the concept rather than simply memorize information. I’m especially comfortable working with students who feel overwhelmed by biology or need the material explained in a different way. I work best with students who are motivated to improve, willing to ask questions, ready to put in consistent effort between sessions, and comfortable participating actively in an online learning environment. I can help with ongoing course support, homework, quizzes and tests, final exams, and biology state assessment preparation.
