Hello, my name is Ethan! I am a student at ECU in my final year of studying theatre for youth and theatrical movement studies. When I was growing up, I had many activities that I loved doing and many subjects that I loved learning about, and I could never choose one, so I started to mix them together. This led me to an interest in multidisciplinary learning, learning how two different things can be connected and work to enhance both of them. Because of my interests, I have learned to find the fun and fulfillment in any subject by learning it on my own terms. I believe that the more you enjoy what you're doing, the more information you retain, and I will always work to make sure that your learning experience with me is that best that it can be.

I began learning Spanish in high school. It started as a necessary credit to graduate, but I became enthralled with the language and how fun it was to learn. I have completed heavy coursework in Spanish and received a 4 on the AP Spanish language exam. Both of my siblings speak Spanish as well, and my sister and I worked together to prepare her for a trip to Mexico that she began a few months ago.

Learning music is something that has been very important to me. I began learning piano when I was 7 years old, and working with the instrument lead me to my love and passion for music in general. I became the assistant director to my school's a cappella group and was responsible for leading rehearsals, teaching songs, and working with the individual sections to make the piece come together. This developed my ear training skill, and I learned how better to use the piano as a tool to teach voice. I was also the music director for a production of The Christians in mid 2018 and was responsible for choosing and preparing the musical arrangements we would use in the show, as well as putting them together with the vocalist.

Theatre is something that I have been learning so much about over the past few years. Through my courses at ECU I have learned many different ways of learnin

Ear Training

Ear Training

I have always had a talent for hearing a melody and being able to play it on an instrument, but I really developed this talent when I sang with and led an a capella group. I arranged many different pieces for the group and had to listen to each different melodic and harmonic line of a song to figure out which vocal register it would fit with best. This practice helped me to be able to identify musical parts and transfer them to notation and other instruments.
Piano

Piano

I have been learning and practicing piano since I was about 7 or 8 years old. My training began with the Suzuki method, but I focus more on self driven, piece oriented learning. I have used my education in music theory and my experience playing for and arranging for an a capella group to inform my ability to learn by ear and improvise melodies and harmonizations. Piano is something that I enjoy practicing and continue to play with my friends and family to develop my skills.
Theater

Theater

I am currently studying theatre for youth and theatrical movement at ECU, but I am also experienced in acting, directing, and playwriting. Through my focus on stage combat and theatrical movement I have learned more about how the different areas and practices of theatre come together, as well as what other disciplines can be helpful in theatrical studies. I plan on graduating with a BFA in Theatre for Youth and a BA in Theatrical Movement Studies in May of 2021.
