Bio

I am a professional musician, play the cello, and hold three degrees in cello performance: Bachelor of Music, Master of Music, and Doctor of Musical Arts. I am also a writer. I wrote a 200-page dissertation for my doctorate about virtuoso cello playing. I have taught many private cello, violin, viola, and bass students, including one cellist who is handicapped on his right hand. I taught him for six years and he won two concerto competitions.

During the pandemic, I taught English as a second language online, to young adults in various countries. Each class had between approximately 2 and 8 students. I emphasize breaking words into syllables so that any word, no matter the length, becomes easier to remember and pronounce. I know the parts of a sentence, including the types of words and where they belong in a sentence. I understand the importance of pronunciation and projection in speaking, and clarity, concision, and creativity in writing.

I have also tutored math. I tutored middle school students with beginning and intermediate algebra and geometry. Each class was in-person and comprised of approximately 15 to 20 students. I enjoy teaching students how much music and math relate, like between points and pitches: one point is like one pitch; two points making a line is like two pitches making an interval; three points making a plane is like three pitches making a chord.

I have read many science authors of books on astronomy. I understand science and much about how the Earth, the Moon, the Solar System, and the universe works. Music and math relate to astronomy, too, including how sound (music) cannot travel in space because sound cannot travel in a vacuum. A mistake our ancient ancestors made was "Music of the Spheres": the idea that each planet actually made a unique sound as they orbited the Sun. Sound requires our Earth's atmosphere.

Great coach

I have worked with Lee a few times. I truly appreciated his approach and method in teaching and coaching. I have come back to playing Upright Bass and Lee is helping move beyond my entry level skill and take my playing to the next level. Lee is unbelievably patient but does also push so that you can expand beyond your comfort level and truly progress. I can not recommend Lee enough to anyone who is looking to grow your skills and art.
