My passion for helping all learners communicate and thrive leads me to teach both English, Special Education, and more. I do my best to support the innate love of learning in all students, keeping the process engaging and motivating.

I received my BA in English (High School Teaching) from UNC-G in 2016. Communication is crucial to personal, academic, and professional success; my focus is preparing students for any future they choose. I help students of all ages and proficiency levels improve their grammar, writing structure, timed writing, reading fluency, reading comprehension, ACT/SAT prep, and more. I specialize in grades K-6 and 9-12, including students who speak other languages and/or have learning differences. I'm also thankful to work with students with special needs, including attention differences, language delays, and more. Data-based practices let me customize and adjust my lessons daily; gamification and student interests allow me to keep content real and engaging for every student. I strive to support each student's social, academic, and/or occupational success through structured, personalized sessions. My students contribute to the creation of their own goals and educational routines through discussions of strengths, weaknesses, and methods. I consider multiple perspectives and sensory approaches to meet every student with patience and an open mind. I am a licensed English/Language Arts teacher for grades 9-12 and Special Education teacher for grades K-12.

I've tutored students who ranged from first grade to graduate school, teaching a whole host of subjects. I love pushing students to new heights and sharing resources for independent learning. Please feel free to message me regarding your (or your student's) needs; I look forward to achieving great things together!

ACT Reading

ACT Reading

I am a licensed High School English/Language Arts teacher, and have taught ACT vocabulary, reading, and writing to students preparing for the test. My lessons improved students' understanding and scores dramatically.
ADHD

ADHD

I have worked with students with ADHD as a tutor and teacher. Some of these lessons have focused on time management and organizational strategies, while others have centered more around filling in gaps in academic understanding which might not be fully addressed at school. It all just depends on my student. Recently I have also had extensive experience working with students with multiple overlapping conditions, often including attention- or organization-related issues. As with all of my other students, I work with my students with ADHD to understand their goals, current strengths, and help them build knowledge and habits that will allow them to reach the places that they want to go in life.
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

Between teaching and tutoring, I have worked with autistic students from the age of 4 to 22, including students with co-occuring conditions such as ADHD, Intellectual Disabilities, OCD, and more. I shape instructional sessions and additional supports with social, behavioral, and health complications in mind. I have worked with verbal/speaking and non-verbal/nonspeaking students, and have several years of experience with ASL, AAC devices, and assistive technology as a replacement or supplement for spoken language. I have helped autistic students with succeed both in common core and in adapted curriculum academic settings, and look forward to continuing to do so.
Common Core

Common Core

I graduated with a Bachelor's degree from an accredited university (UNC at Greensboro). I am a licensed teacher for grades K-12 in North Carolina. I have assisted established teachers and tutored individual students in summer school programs for a variety of common core subjects, including English, Math, and Science.
Dyslexia

Dyslexia

I have learned about experiences and educational approaches to teaching dyslexic students as a part of becoming a licensed English/ language arts teacher. I have tutored dyslexic students of different ages, and been able to successfully implement techniques from the ESL, reading comprehension, and literary analysis lessons I have taught, as well as researched methods for dyslexia in particular. I find that patience and discussion are two of the most important aspects in helping students with dyslexia become stronger readers (and writers) and I relish the opportunity to work with these students further.
Elementary (K-6th)

Elementary (K-6th)

I've taught in K-6 classrooms and worked with other licensed elementary teachers to better incorporate research-based and data-based practice into their classrooms for the benefit of all students. I am currently licensed to teach students in grades K-12, with additional experience and credentials in ELA. As a teacher, tutor, counselor, and more, I have worked with students ages 3-23, building their core knowledge and love of learning for lifelong positive habits, while incorporating a thorough understanding of psychological research on psychosocial development, self-determination theory, and more. I adore having the opportunity to share my understanding of English, science, social studies, and math with students of every age, and look forward to doing so even more in the future. I have experience with "exceptional" learners of every kind, and am passionate about adapting my lessons to the needs of the specific learners I work with.
Elementary Math

Elementary Math

As a classroom teacher, tutor, and more, I have provided individualized math support to students of all ages. I am currently licensed to teach grades K-12, and have taught both Common Core and state-specific (NC) math standards, in addition to individualized instruction in particular areas of need. I specialize in making math instruction accessible, personal, and worthwhile for my students. I remember being the kid who "didn't get it," and love helping students overcome that feeling to become brilliant mathematicians in their own lives.
Elementary Science

Elementary Science

As a licensed teacher and tutor, I have supported students K-12 with science needs, including addressing pivotal needs in vocabulary, reading comprehension, report writing, applied math concepts, and logical reasoning. I incorporate concepts based on extensive psychological research to make lessons personal, engaging, and accessible to all students. As we work together, we use dozens of assessments in child-friendly language, so that students can understand and explain their own progress without the pressure of calling it a "test." Elementary science is incredibly fun for me to teach, and I find that students pick up on that as we unlock new ways for them to understand their world.
English

English

I am a graduate of the English Education program at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and licensed English/Language Arts teacher for grades 9-12 in North Carolina. I have teaching experience in reading, writing, and more for ages 3-23, at all educational levels.
ESL/ESOL

ESL/ESOL

As a teacher and tutor, I've supported English Learners in elementary, middle, high, and graduate school. We always find points of connection and build on what they care about. To me, ESL is the "how" and I am happy to provide a variety of supports to increase students' fluency. However, in our lessons, what we talk about is usually student-specific. This allows students to build language skills while thinking about the things they love to do. I'm always happy to help my ESL students find strategies to help them in their schoolwork, friendships, and more, as I know that language differences can impact many areas of life. I've supported ESL students with special needs as well; I'm happy to talk to you more about my experience and how we can work together.
Essay Writing

Essay Writing

I have a Bachelor's degree in English with a focus in high school education from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and have won over $3,000 in essay-based grants. I have taught and English/Language arts for grades K-12, with a special passion and proficiency for teaching writing. General Computer

General Computer

I've taught for over 10 years, including providing respectful technology coaching to peers and students. For over 5 years of that time I've worked remotely full-time, adjusting my computer setup to meet my needs for several types of digital work, including video calls, recording videos, significant document management, and more. I'm always happy to walk people through whatever technological process they're learning, and really enjoy seeing what people do once they have access to the tools.
German

German

I have studied German for approximately ten years. I studied German literature in Saxony-Anhalt in 2015 in a language immersion setting on a skills-based federal grant, and continue to practice my German skills online and with my family. I hope to become certified to teach German soon, as well, though it is not my primary subject.
Grammar

Grammar

I am a licensed English teacher and have taught English skills including grammar for students ages 3-23. I genuinely enjoy linguistics, and love finding ways for my students to enjoy exploring grammar too, through interest-based writing activities and gamified specific skill drills. I have taught grammar in the context of standards-based English, AP English, ESL, creative writing, essay-writing, and test preparation. I am particularly interested in removing the element of shame that is frequently found in grammar instruction, instead focusing on teaching students code-switching and which types of verbal and written communication are likely to be most effective in different settings.
Handwriting

Handwriting

I'm a licensed teacher for K-12 and have supported students of all ages in improving their handwriting. Personally, I enjoy exploring different fonts and amateur calligraphy; I find that drawing, handwriting, and hand exercises all work hand-in-hand to establish the hand/eye coordination and fine motor skills that students need for their personal handwriting style. I aim for all of my students to write legibly (in a way a stranger could read) and in a way that feels comfortable and personal to them. For students in school or professional settings, I also take into consideration expectations of capitalization, etc. For online students: This is a topic I have taught successfully online. It is possible! I would encourage students to come with a pad of paper and a writing implement, and/or use a tablet with a touch screen and stylus if possible for our lessons. However, we will work with whatever you have. Legible handwriting is about identifying the shapes needed, learning one's own body mechanics, and practice. All of those are thoroughly possible through a video call.
Homeschool

Homeschool

I love working with students learning in the home environment, either due to medical needs, personal circumstances, or social decisions. I have instructed students in classroom, tutoring, summer school, and home-school contexts for upward of 11 years, and relish the opportunity to bring lessons from all contexts into each new student's life. In particular, I believe that home-school allows families to set goals and schedules which best suit the needs of their individual students, and I look forward to embarking (or joining you) on that journey together!
Literature

Literature

I graduated from UNCG with a Bachelor's Degree in English and specialization in teaching High School. I have experience teaching English concepts including literature for students ages 3-23 and have a North Carolina English/Language Arts teaching license for grades 9-12 (as well as Special Education license for grades K-12.) I have taught a variety of literature and literacy lessons for different grade levels, with a focus on understanding character motivations, themes, and unpacking specific literary devices. My favorite way to teach literature is as a long-standing in-depth book club, so that students are accustomed to literary habits before tests like the SAT and ACT; however, I do also provide test prep sessions for students approaching high-stakes tests and projects with major literary components.
Praxis

Praxis

I've passed 4 different PRAXIS tests, each on my first attempt. I am currently licensed to teach English/Language Arts for high school, as well as Special Education for grades K-12, having maintained these certification areas. I’m happy to help you find the resources, practice the questions, identify gaps in your knowledge, and build skills and confidence to show what you know. (I've passed 4/4 tests I've taken, with test codes 5038, 5322, 5511, and 5624. I'm confident that the study and execution skills are transferable, and am happy to help you prepare for whichever PRAXIS tests you choose to take.)
Proofreading

Proofreading

As an English teacher, grant winner, and writer, I understand the importance of meticulous grammar, especially in high-stakes essays for tests, admissions, and graduate school. I graduated from UNCG with a Bachelor's Degree in English. I have experience teaching English/Language Arts to students ages 3-23, have coached high school students through creative writing projects, and have a North Carolina English/Language Arts teaching license for grades 9-12. I've also presented formal research in multiple settings, including on various topics about writing education.

SAT Reading

SAT Reading

I've passed, tutored, and taught students for the SAT, with over a 40% average score increase following our dedicated practice sessions. I enjoy building students' confidence and skill so that they can excel both in our tutoring sessions and on the day of the test, and put their best foot forward in college applications. I have extensive experience teaching and tutoring English, reading, writing, and test preparation, and apply a variety of strategies to help each individual student succeed.
SAT Writing

SAT Writing

I am a licensed High School English teacher, and have over a decade of teaching and tutoring English, including classroom experience with AP, IB, and honors English classes. I have tutored students through SAT writing preparation in traditional methods (such as designated practice tests) and nontraditional methods (including gamified skill drills on identified areas of weakness.) I have presented formal research on the efficacy of timed writing instruction, and writing instruction of all kinds continues to be one of my favorite ways to help students present their ideas more effectively, both for themselves and for the admissions process.
Social Studies

Social Studies

I've taught all core subjects, including social studies, for students with special needs in grades K-6 and 9-12. I find that students' difficulty in social studies often stems from struggles with the vocabulary, rote memorization of historical facts, and applied reading comprehension and writing skills. As a multi-subject teacher, I'm uniquely qualified and excited to address all of these subjects with my students in positive, creative, and lasting ways.
Special Needs

Special Needs

I've taught special education classes of grades K-6 and 9-12 full-time in schools for 5 years, with additional experience in various educational roles. I'm licensed to teach adapted curriculum (severe/profound) for grades K-12, and hold 2 teaching licenses. Between teaching and tutoring, I have worked with autistic students from the age of 4 to 22, as well as students with ADHD, Intellectual Disabilities, OCD, Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, and more. I'm familiar with navigating co-occuring conditions, shaping instructional sessions and additional supports with social, behavioral, and health complications in mind. I have worked with verbal/speaking and non-verbal/nonspeaking students, and have several years of experience with ASL, AAC devices, and assistive technology as a replacement or supplement for spoken language. I have helped students with educational and/or intellectual disabilities succeed both in common core and in adapted curriculum academic settings, and look forward to continuing to do so.
Spelling

Spelling

I've taught English and adjacent subjects for the last 11 years, including work with students ages 3-23. I've worked with new spellers (whether young kids or individuals with disabilities) to use phonics-based strategies, gamified memory practice, and more. I've worked with experienced writers (including high school, college, and graduate students) to refine their spelling for high stakes essays, tests, and courses. I've worked with English Language Learners of all ages to incorporate their existing knowledge and troubleshoot linguistic differences. I take a "no-shame" approach to lessons- my only goal is to ensure that your writing is always received with respect appropriate to your content. I'm especially fond of working with students who've struggled with spelling for a long time, or who hope to "brush up" for more professional acknowledgement in academia or their profession.
Study Skills

Study Skills

I have taught study skills among other academic topics for ages 5-20 for upward of 11 years. I work with students to determine specific methods that will help them retain the information, and build their confidence to truly put their knowledge on display on test day. I have extensive experience working with students with ADHD, Autism, and more, and familiar with a range of difficulties and strategies for students with executive function deficits impacting their organization, study skills, test preparation, and test day performance.

I graduated from UNCG with a Bachelor's Degree in English. I have over 11 years of experience teaching English to students ages 3-23, including teaching grades K-6 and 9-12 in a school setting. I'm currently licensed to teach English/Language Arts for grades 9-12, and special education for grades K-12. My vocabulary lessons include practice games, topics of student interest, and high energy to keep students motivated and engaged at all times.
