Hi, my name is Kira and I currently work as a Social Worker in the public sector. I have an extensive background in the Social Sciences that include areas such as Sociology and Psychology. I am an alumni of NC State University and a graduate of The Professional School of Psychology. I enjoy learning as much as I do teaching! During my time at NC State, I fell in love with tutoring and worked the the student athlete program to tutor and empower our collegiate athletes. As a tutor, I trained in many areas, including study and test taking strategies, working with students with learning disabilities and ways to improve reading and comprehension to name a few. I remained on board as a tutor for a little over five years. I also worked on the side tutoring local high school students in various subjects and helping them to enhance their organizational and test taking skills.
I currently tutor as a volunteer teaching Adult Basic Education courses where I work from a guided curriculum to improve reading, writing and comprehension skills. I work with adult learners to improve their preexisting reading skills or learn to read for the first time. I find this work very enjoyable! Despite being a tutor, I learn much from my students and ways to continue to meet their needs in a learning environment.
As a tutoring, my goal is to improve confidence and content knowledge, teach in ways that enhances a learner's skills and abilities and make learning fun. I have found that with all my students that learning is a combination of styles and empowering the learner to reach their ultimate potential. I am a very patient, out going and creative tutor that brings much to a learning session! I look forward to meeting new learners very soon.
I currently teach Adult Basic Education and do so by utilizing a provided curriculum but also placing a unique spin on the lessons. I have experience teaching paper writing, reading, writing and comprehension skills. I am familiar with paper writing formats and research skills.
