Hi, I'm Steve, and I hear you are searching for help in your science courses. I am always motivated to dissect and discuss science. As far as credentials go, I have a Ph.D. in Chemistry from Penn State. I am an expert in physical inorganic chemistry, and I have acquired a large breadth of subject knowledge. Looking farther back, I received a B.S. in Chemistry with a minor in Physics from Ohio Northern University (3.96 GPA). Over time, I became skilled in communicating science and helping students. I moved into college teaching professor roles, most recently at Elon University. I taught General Chemistry for 8 years at the college level, as well as General Physics for 2 years. I get that you may be struggling in these courses, as they tend to be challenging for many people. I literally teach these courses, and I can bring that perspective to the table to help you succeed. I am dedicated to the science understanding of the public, and I have a series of video lessons and tutorials.
I have a great deal of experience in classroom instruction (8 years in total). While I teach college students, my treatment would transfer seamlessly to high school science as well. I am equipped to guide students in cementing their understanding. I view tutoring as extension of office hours, which are important opportunities for students to stop in and get any questions answered. I am patient, and I try to fill in gaps or address misunderstandings. I have a knack for being able to identify points of confusion. From my teaching experience, I have quite a lot of practice and reference material. I know what skills teachers expect students to demonstrate, and I can guide you toward mastery through clear explanations and worked examples. I ask leading questions; I like to put students in the driver’s seat to make connections. I am always looking for that “eureka” moment when everything clicks.
