Hi, I'm Steve, and I hear you are searching for help in your science courses. I am always motivated to dissect and discuss science. As far as credentials go, I have a Ph.D. in Chemistry from Penn State. I am an expert in physical inorganic chemistry, and I have acquired a large breadth of subject knowledge. Looking farther back, I received a B.S. in Chemistry with a minor in Physics from Ohio Northern University (3.96 GPA). Over time, I became skilled in communicating science and helping students. I moved into college teaching professor roles, most recently at Elon University. I taught General Chemistry for 8 years at the college level, as well as General Physics for 2 years. I get that you may be struggling in these courses, as they tend to be challenging for many people. I literally teach these courses, and I can bring that perspective to the table to help you succeed. I am dedicated to the science understanding of the public, and I have a series of video lessons and tutorials.

I have a great deal of experience in classroom instruction (8 years in total). While I teach college students, my treatment would transfer seamlessly to high school science as well. I am equipped to guide students in cementing their understanding. I view tutoring as extension of office hours, which are important opportunities for students to stop in and get any questions answered. I am patient, and I try to fill in gaps or address misunderstandings. I have a knack for being able to identify points of confusion. From my teaching experience, I have quite a lot of practice and reference material. I know what skills teachers expect students to demonstrate, and I can guide you toward mastery through clear explanations and worked examples. I ask leading questions; I like to put students in the driver’s seat to make connections. I am always looking for that “eureka” moment when everything clicks.

If you are interested, go ahead and contact me. Feel free to ask any questions, and we can see about scheduling some lessons.

Calculus

Calculus

I teach chemistry and physics at the college level. Students tend to struggle with math, and I am working to do my part to help. I have plans to introduce a "Mathematics for Physical Science" course, and calculus would be one of the central themes. Math is used all over the sciences, and I have a lot of experience assisting students through problems involving its applications.
Quantum Physics

Quantum Physics

I have been teaching chemistry at the college level for 8 years now. Quantum mechanics is an essential feature of physics, and it is an ingredient in our modern understanding of chemistry. I have experience in communicating quantum principles to students in an understandable way. I also have a background working on research projects with electron delocalization (a quantum principle) with applications to solar energy conversion.
Thermodynamics

Thermodynamics

Thermal physics is a topic in science that weaves through many other sub-disciplines. It is important to average the microscopic properties of a system to obtain a simpler, macroscopic description. My teaching background is in chemistry and physics, and thermodynamics is a topic that we cover in detail. Further, I have studied properties of statistical fields, which are used in our models in condensed matter physics.
