I studied English and Psychology at Western Carolina University and completed two full degrees (B.A. and B.S) with two minors (Computer Science and Professional Writing). From there, I went on to study English at the University of South Carolina where I earned a Master's Degree in English with a concentration in Digital Humanities and Book History. Digital Humanities is the application of Computer Science and Machine Learning methodologies to humanistic questions. After completing my Master's, I continued to study at U of SC for an additional 4 years before leaving for health reasons.
While at the University of South Carolina, I taught English for about 6 years to mostly freshman. I pride myself on the rapport that I developed with my students and with the progress that I was able to see in them. I try to teach in fun and somewhat unorthodox ways that can grab students' attention and that foster retention. I try to cater to students' interests by tailoring my lessons to things like popular culture and fun games that, in some ways, trick them into learning.
