Hi,
My name is Mike and I am an educator with over 35 years of experience. I have a Certification in Radar Technology from the CCAF (1980), BSEE (1990, with additional specialization in Physics), MSEE (1994, with additional specialization in Computer Science) and Ph. D. EE (1998, with additional specialization in Computer Science). I was also a GM and NASA honors student (receiving scholarships for both).
I have taught/tutored students from 6th grade to doctoral candidates. This includes teaching Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Mathematics to undergraduate, graduate and doctoral students, and Computing to community college students and adults. I have tutored 6th through 12th grade students in Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Computing topics. Additionally, I have helped students prepare for the SAT and GRE (with all gaining acceptance into college or graduate school). I have also worked as an evaluator of standardized tests in English and Mathematics for high school students. Consequently, I know how to prepare students to perform well on these required examinations.
My approach to tutoring is to employ a constructivist pedagogy where students are encouraged to master a subject in addition to test-taking. For technical topics, simple memorization can be overwhelming with the sheer number of equations, formulas, theorems, lemmas, etc., that students must become familiar with. However, a more problem-solving approach allows students to associate problem type with formulas and equations, which makes understanding and applying the right mathematical formulas/equations much easier.
My goals when working with you will be to help you meet your quantitative objectives (score well on tests/exams, get better grade(s), etc.), and help you qualitatively, as well, to become better at self-study, test preparation, and gain the confidence to welcome the next academic challenge. I hope we will have the opportunity to achieve these outcomes.
